Taking a screenshot on your Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 is a fundamental skill, whether you're saving a webpage for later, capturing a funny moment from a video, or sharing a snippet of a document. The large screen offers several intuitive methods, and some of Samsung's built-in tools are perfect for a tablet's workflow.
Press the Button Combo
The universal method works perfectly on the Tab S9. Simply press and hold the Side button and the Volume Down button together for a brief moment, then release. You'll see a quick animation around the edges of the screen, hear a shutter sound (if your sound is on), and a small toolbar will pop up at the bottom.
This method works in any app and whether your tablet is in portrait or landscape orientation. I find it's the most reliable way to get a shot when you need it quickly.
Swipe with Your Palm
This gesture is fantastic on a large tablet screen. First, you need to enable it. Swipe down from the top and tap the settings gear, then go to Advanced features > Motions and gestures. Turn on the switch for Palm swipe to capture.
Once it's on, place the side of your hand vertically against the edge of the screen and swipe across, as if you're wiping the glass. Make sure your hand is touching the screen. It takes a little practice, but it's incredibly handy when your tablet is propped up and you don't want to pick it up to press buttons.
Use the Quick Settings Panel
Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen twice to open the full Quick Settings panel. Look for a tile labeled Screenshot. If you don't see it, tap the three-dot menu button or the pencil icon to edit your tiles, then drag the Screenshot tile into your active panel.
Tapping this tile is a clean, one-tap way to capture your screen. It's especially useful if you have your tablet connected to a keyboard case and the physical buttons are harder to reach.
Capture Extended Content with Scroll Capture
This is where the Tab S9 really shines for productivity. After you take any screenshot, look for the button with two downward arrows on the preview toolbar that appears. Tap it, and your tablet will automatically scroll down and stitch the next section of the page onto your screenshot.
You can keep tapping the scroll capture button to extend the screenshot further, perfect for capturing entire web articles, long email threads, or a full PDF page. The toolbar also lets you crop or draw on the image immediately.
Utilize the Edge Panels for More Control
The Edge Panels are a powerful Samsung feature. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open the panel tab, then swipe again on the tab to open the panel menu. Look for the Smart select panel. If it's not there, tap the three lines to edit and add it.
Smart select lets you capture a specific rectangle, a circle, or even create an animated GIF. This is ideal for grabbing just a portion of a large diagram or a specific section of text without having to crop later.
Ask Bixby or Google Assistant
If your hands are full or your tablet is across the room, you can use voice commands. Just say, "Hey Bixby, take a screenshot" or "Hey Google, take a screenshot." Your assistant will capture whatever is currently displayed on your Tab S9's screen and save it directly to your Gallery.
This method requires your voice assistant to be enabled and listening for the wake word. It's a neat hands-free trick that works well in a home office setup.
Find and Manage Your Screenshots
All your screenshots are automatically saved. Open the Samsung Gallery app and navigate to the Albums tab. You'll find a dedicated Screenshots album there. From the Gallery, you can share, edit, delete, or organize your captures into different albums.
The preview toolbar that appears after a screenshot also offers instant sharing to apps like Messages or Gmail, which can save you several taps if you know you need to send the image right away.
Adjust Your Screenshot Preferences
You can customize how screenshots behave in your tablet's settings. Go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Here, you can change options like the screenshot format or choose to hide the floating toolbar after capture.
If you find the shutter sound annoying, remember that putting your tablet into silent or vibrate mode will silence it. These small tweaks can make the process feel perfectly tailored to how you use your Tab S9.
