Screen recording on your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a handy feature built right into the phone. You can use it to capture a tricky game level, save a video call, or create a quick tutorial for a friend. The process is straightforward, and you can even draw on the screen as you record.

Start a Screen Recording

Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to pull down the full Quick Settings panel. Look for the tile labeled Screen recorder. If you don't see it immediately, tap the pencil icon or the + button to edit your tiles and add it from the list.

Tap the Screen recorder tile. A menu will pop up asking you to choose your audio source before the countdown begins.

Select Your Audio Source

You have three choices for sound. Selecting No sound will record a silent video of your screen. The Media sounds option captures any audio playing from your phone, like music or game sound effects.

Choose Media sounds and mic if you want to record both the phone's audio and your own voice commentary through the microphone. Pick your option and tap Start recording. You'll get a three-second countdown.

Use the Recording Controls

Once recording starts, a small floating toolbar appears on your screen. It has buttons to pause or stop the recording, and it shows a live timer. You can drag this toolbar to any edge of the screen to get it out of your way.

I'd start a recording and then open the app or game I want to capture during the countdown. This keeps the beginning of your video clean and focused.

Draw on the Screen Live

For tutorials, the live drawing tool is incredibly useful. Tap the pencil icon on the floating toolbar while recording. This lets you choose a pen color and draw arrows, circles, or highlights directly on your screen as the video captures everything.

You can turn this feature off by tapping the pencil icon again. It's a great way to emphasize specific buttons or actions without any post-editing.

Stop and Save Your Video

To finish, tap the square stop button on the floating toolbar. You can also swipe down from the top to see your notifications and tap the "Screen recorder is recording" notification to stop.

The video saves automatically to your Gallery app. You'll find it in the Screen recordings album, which makes it easy to locate later.

Trim and Edit Your Recording

Open the Gallery app and navigate to your new recording. Tap on it, then select the Edit button (it looks like a pencil). The built-in video editor lets you trim the start and end points, which is perfect for cutting out the countdown or any fumbling at the end.

You can also adjust the playback speed, add background music, or apply filters before saving a new copy of the edited video.

Configure the Recorder Settings

For more control, go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Here, you can change the video quality, which affects file size. The Z Flip 6 can record in up to 1080p resolution.

You can also toggle an option to show touch interactions on screen. When enabled, a small white circle will appear wherever you tap, which is excellent for clear instructional videos.

Recording with the Cover Screen and Flex Mode

The Z Flip 6's unique design offers some interesting recording angles. You can start a recording while the phone is partially folded in Flex Mode for a hands-free setup, perfect for recording a video call or a cooking tutorial.

While the cover screen's app support is limited, you can start a screen recording from the main screen and then close the phone. The recording will continue, capturing whatever is on the main screen, which can be useful for certain demonstrations.

Content That Won't Record

Due to copyright protection, most streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max will block screen recording. You'll typically just get a black screen in the video. Banking and secure payment apps also prevent recording for security reasons.

For everything else, your own photos, web browsing, games, and social media apps, the screen recorder will work without any issues. If you run into a black screen, it's almost always due to an app's built-in security, not a problem with your phone.
