Screen recording on your Samsung Galaxy A56 is a built-in feature that lets you capture exactly what's happening on your display. It's perfect for saving a funny moment from a video call, creating a how-to guide for an app, or sharing a gameplay clip with friends.

Find the Screen Recorder Tool

Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to pull down the full Quick Settings panel. Look for the tile labeled Screen recorder. If you don't see it right away, tap the pencil icon or the + button to edit your Quick Settings and add the Screen recorder tile from the list of available options.

Once you've found it, just tap the Screen recorder tile. A small menu will pop up from the bottom of your screen, asking you to set up your audio before you begin.

Set Up Your Audio Source

This menu gives you three choices for sound. Selecting No sound means your recording will be completely silent, which is good for capturing visual steps. The Media sounds option records audio coming from your phone, like music, game sounds, or a video playing in an app.

If you want to narrate what you're doing, choose Media sounds and mic. This captures both the phone's audio and your voice through the microphone. Pick your option and then tap Start recording.

Start Your Recording

After you tap start, you'll see a three-second countdown. This gives you a moment to switch to the app or screen you actually want to record. Once the countdown finishes, the recording begins and a small, floating control panel appears on your screen.

This panel has buttons to pause or stop the recording, and it also shows a timer. You can drag this panel to any edge of the screen to get it out of your way while you continue to use your phone normally.

Add Annotations While Recording

Need to highlight something? Tap the pencil icon on the floating panel to start drawing directly on your screen. You can change the pen color and thickness. This is incredibly useful if you're creating a tutorial and want to circle a button or underline some text for your viewers.

Just tap the pencil again when you're finished drawing to go back to the normal controls.

Finish and Save Your Video

To stop recording, tap the square stop button on the floating panel. You can also swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the "Screen recorder is recording" notification. As soon as you stop, the video is automatically processed and saved to your phone's Gallery app.

You'll find it in a dedicated folder called Screen recordings within the Gallery.

Trim and Edit Your Clip

Open the Gallery app and navigate to your Screen recordings album. Tap on the video you just made, then look for the Edit button (it usually looks like a pencil). Samsung's video editor lets you trim off the beginning or end, adjust the playback speed, or add background music.

When you're done editing, make sure to tap Save to keep your changes. The original file remains untouched unless you choose to overwrite it.

Customize the Recorder Settings

For more control, dive into the settings. Go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Here on your Galaxy A56, you can change the video quality, which affects file size. Higher quality like 1080p looks sharper but takes up more storage.

You can also toggle an option to show touch interactions on screen, which paints a small circle wherever you tap. This is another great feature for making clear tutorials.

Understand the Recording Limits

It's important to know that due to copyright protection, most streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, or HBO Max will block screen recording. You'll typically just get a black screen in the recording. Banking and secure payment apps also disable recording for your security.

For nearly everything else, your own photos, web browsing, social media apps, and games, the screen recorder will work without any issues. If you ever need to force the recorder to close, a quick force restart by holding the Volume Down and Side button for 10 seconds will do it.
