Your Fitbit Inspire 3 stops showing calls, texts, calendar alerts, emails, and app notifications when one setting breaks the path between your phone, Google Health, and the tracker.
Start on the tracker, because Do Not Disturb, Sleep Mode, low battery, and a dropped phone connection are the fastest blockers to spot. Then move through Google Health, phone notification settings, Bluetooth, and pairing in that order.
Current notification setup uses Google Health, Connections, your device, and Notifications. Older Fitbit app paths and the fitbit.com web dashboard are not the current setup route for Inspire 3 phone notifications.
Set up notifications again in Google Health
Use the current Google Health notification setup path before digging into deeper fixes.
- 1.Open the Google Health app and keep your Inspire 3 close to your phone.
- 2.Go to Connections, tap your device, then open Notifications.
- 3.Follow the on-screen prompts to pair your Fitbit with your phone and allow Google Health to access notifications.
- 4.Choose the notification types you want, including Calls, Text messages, Calendar events, and Emails.
- 5.Open App Notifications to choose other apps, then sync your device.
Check the obvious blockers on your Inspire 3
The most common tracker-side cause is Do Not Disturb or Sleep Mode muting notification alerts.
Wake your Inspire 3 and look at the icons at the top of the clock face. If the icons disappear, swipe right to see them again in quick settings.
If you see Do Not Disturb, Sleep Mode, a critically low battery icon, or a disconnected phone icon, fix that before changing anything else.
Swipe down from the clock screen, then tap DND mode and Sleep mode so both are off.
Sleep Mode also runs on a schedule. On the tracker, swipe down from the clock screen, open Settings, go to Quiet modes, then Sleep Mode, Schedule, and Interval, tap the start or end time, swipe up or down to change it, and tap the time to select it.
If Water Lock is on, firmly double-tap the middle of the Inspire 3 screen to unlock it. Notifications still appear while Water Lock is on, but the screen and buttons stay locked until you turn it off.
Turn off phone Focus and quiet modes
Use this when your phone is receiving fewer alerts than expected or alerts are being held before they reach your Fitbit. Phone-side quiet settings stop the alert before Google Health mirrors it.
On Android, open Settings, then Sound, and turn off Do not disturb.
On iPhone, open Control Center and turn off Do Not Disturb or any active Focus mode such as Personal, Work, Sleep, Reduce Interruptions, or Driving.
If Do Not Disturb keeps returning on iPhone, open Settings, then Focus, then Do Not Disturb, then Set a Schedule, and turn off active schedules.
If your Lock Screen is linked to Do Not Disturb, touch and hold the Lock Screen, swipe to the wallpaper showing Do Not Disturb at the bottom, or tap the current Focus option on a wallpaper to change it.
On supported Apple Intelligence devices, open Settings, then Focus, then Do Not Disturb, and turn off Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing if it is filtering alerts.
Fix iPhone app alerts and Bluetooth sharing
This applies when your iPhone gets notifications but Inspire 3 does not mirror them, or when calls and texts stopped after a Bluetooth change, iPhone prompt, or re-pairing attempt.
Open Settings, then Notifications, tap the app you want mirrored, turn on Allow Notifications, keep Notification Center enabled, and set Show Previews to Always or When Unlocked.
If alerts arrive late, open Settings, then Notifications, then Scheduled Summary, and remove important source apps from the summary or turn Scheduled Summary off.
For the Fitbit Bluetooth permission, open Settings, then Bluetooth, tap the information icon next to your Fitbit device, and turn Share System Notifications off and back on.
If Share System Notifications is missing, restart the Fitbit. When the iPhone asks whether the Fitbit can show notifications, tap Allow, then return to Settings, Bluetooth, the information icon next to Fitbit, and turn on Share System Notifications.
Grant Android permissions and background access
Android blocks Fitbit notifications when Health is missing the permissions or background access it needs. Open Settings, then Apps, then Health, and check Permissions.
Allow Calendar for calendar notifications, Call logs for missed calls, Contacts and Phone for incoming calls, SMS for texts, and Nearby devices for setup and sync.
Keep Health running in the background. In Settings, Apps, Health, open Mobile data & Wi-Fi or Mobile data usage, then turn on Background data and Unrestricted mobile data usage.
Open Settings, then Apps, then Health, then App battery usage, and set background use to Unrestricted.
If Data Saver is on, open Settings, then Network & internet, then Data Saver, then Unrestricted mobile data, and make sure Health is turned on.
For Android 12 and higher, open Settings, then Apps, then Health, then Permissions, then Nearby Devices, and tap Allow. For Android 11 and lower, turn on Location because Bluetooth scanning uses Location services.
Restore Bluetooth and range
Use this when notifications work only sometimes, Inspire 3 shows a disconnected phone icon, or notification setup fails after the phone and tracker stop communicating. Keep the phone within 30 feet of your Inspire 3 while testing.
On Android, open Settings, then Connected devices, then Connection preferences, then Bluetooth, and turn on Use Bluetooth.
Open Google Health so the tracker syncs.
Reset the Bluetooth connection next. Open your phone’s Bluetooth settings, turn Bluetooth off, wait 10 seconds, turn Bluetooth back on, then open Google Health again to sync Inspire 3.
If notifications still do not resume, open your phone’s Bluetooth settings, tap the information icon or gear icon next to the Fitbit device, and choose Forget or Unpair.
Then open Google Health, go to Connections, your device, and Notifications, set up notifications again, and sync your tracker.
Update Google Health and Inspire 3
The most common app-related cause is an outdated Google Health app or a missing tracker firmware update.
On Android, update Google Health from Google Play. You can also open Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, go to Manage apps & device, then See details under updates, and tap Update next to Google Health.
On iPhone, update Google Health from the App Store. Open App Store, tap your account button or photo, go to App Updates, then tap Update next to Google Health or use Update All.
For Inspire 3 firmware, open Google Health with the tracker nearby, go to Connections, tap your device, then tap Update and follow the on-screen directions. The Update option appears only when an update is available.
Restart and refresh the setup
Force quit Google Health using your phone’s app switcher or app settings.
Reopen Google Health and sync your Inspire 3.
Restart your phone, especially if you just updated Google Health.
Open Google Health and try notifications again.
On Inspire 3, swipe down from the clock screen, open Settings, swipe up, tap Restart Device, swipe up again, then tap Restart. This restart does not delete activity data.
If the tracker is unresponsive, connect Inspire 3 to its charging cable, press and hold the buttons for 10 seconds, and release them when the tracker vibrates and the Fitbit logo appears.
Open Google Health, go to Connections, your device, and Notifications, turn notifications off, restart your phone, turn notifications back on, and sync your Fitbit.
Run the refresh after every app update or Bluetooth reset so the phone and tracker rebuild the notification link.
Reset pairing only after simpler fixes
Use pairing removal when notification setup keeps failing or the phone still behaves as if an old Bluetooth connection is stuck. If you have other Fitbit trackers or watches connected to the same account or phone, remove those first because Google Health currently supports only one Fitbit device or Pixel Watch on an account at the same time, except for the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch exception.
In Google Health, open Connections, tap Inspire 3 under devices, and remove or disconnect it. Then remove the Fitbit from your phone’s Bluetooth list, return to Google Health, open Connections, tap Add device, choose Inspire 3, and follow the setup prompts.
Erase Inspire 3 only when you are ready to set it up again. On the tracker, swipe down from the clock screen to find the Settings app, open Settings, go to Device Info, then tap Clear User Data. Inspire 3 does not use the 3-second screen press that Ace 3, Inspire, Inspire HR, and Inspire 2 still require.
If pairing removal and erasing the tracker fail, check whether your phone is managed by work, school, or family controls, and ask the administrator to allow Google Health, Bluetooth, notification access, background data, and required permissions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Fitbit Inspire 3 show some notifications but not texts?
Fitbit shows new, unread texts. Close the conversation on your phone, then send a new test message and make sure Text messages are selected in Google Health.
Can Inspire 3 show notifications when my phone is far away?
No. Keep the phone within 30 feet of Inspire 3 while testing notifications and syncing.
Does restarting Inspire 3 delete my data?
No. Restarting Inspire 3 does not delete activity data. Clear User Data is the disruptive option and belongs at the end of re-pairing or transfer troubleshooting.
What if notification settings are greyed out on my phone?
The phone may be managed by work, school, or family controls. Ask the administrator to allow Google Health, Bluetooth, notification access, background data, and required permissions.
