If your Honor Magic 7 Pro isn't reading your fingerprint, you're locked out of your own phone. It's a common hiccup, but one that's usually easy to fix. Let's get you back in.

Start With the Quick Fix

First, clean the sensor. The under-display scanner on your Magic 7 Pro is sensitive to smudges, dirt, and moisture. Just wipe the screen over the sensor area with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. If your hands are sweaty or you just used lotion, dry them off completely before trying again.

Restart Your Phone

This is the universal fix for a reason. A quick restart clears out any temporary software glitches that might be confusing the sensor. Just press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until you see the Honor logo appear and the phone reboots. Test the fingerprint reader as soon as it's back up.

Check Your Finger and Technique

Make sure you're placing your finger correctly. Cover the entire sensor area shown on the screen, and hold it there for a full second, don't just tap it. If you've got a small cut or your skin is particularly dry, the scanner might struggle. I'd try a different finger you've registered to see if the problem is with the sensor or just that specific fingerprint.

Re-register Your Fingerprint

This solves more fingerprint issues than anything else. Go to Settings > Security & privacy > Fingerprint ID. Enter your PIN or password, tap on the problematic fingerprint, and select Delete. Now, add it again. When you register, make sure to roll your finger to capture the edges, not just the center. The more of your print it sees, the better it works.

Update MagicOS

Honor releases updates that often include fixes for biometric sensors. To check, go to Settings > System & updates > Software update and tap Check for updates. If there's one available, install it. It's a good idea to connect to Wi-Fi and plug in your 100W charger first, as updates can take a few minutes.

Inspect Your Screen Protector

A thick, low-quality, or poorly aligned screen protector is the number one cause of under-display fingerprint reader failures. If you recently applied one and the problems started, try removing it temporarily to test. If the scanner works perfectly without it, you need a protector specifically marketed as compatible with ultrasonic or under-display fingerprint sensors.

Clear the System Cache

Corrupted cache files can interfere with all sorts of functions, including the fingerprint service. To clear it, power off your Magic 7 Pro completely. Then, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button together. When the Honor logo appears, release the Power button but keep holding Volume Up until you enter recovery mode. Use the volume keys to navigate to Wipe cache partition and select it with the power button. Confirm, then select Reboot system now.

Check for App Interference

Some apps, especially those with overlay permissions or accessibility services, can conflict with the lock screen. Think about any new apps you've installed recently. Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the fingerprint works there. Hold the power button, then tap and hold the "Power off" option on your screen until you see the Safe Mode prompt. If the scanner works in Safe Mode, a third-party app is likely the culprit.

Review Your Security Settings

Head back to Settings > Security & privacy > Fingerprint ID. Ensure Unlock device is toggled on. Also, check if you have any "Device protection" or antivirus features enabled that might be overly aggressive and blocking biometric authentication. Temporarily disabling them for a test can rule this out.

Consider Environmental Factors

The Magic 7 Pro's 100W wired and 80W wireless charging are incredibly fast, but they generate noticeable heat. A hot phone can sometimes cause the sensor to act up. If you're having issues right after a charging session, let the phone cool down for a few minutes. Similarly, extremely cold, dry conditions can affect your skin and the sensor's performance.

If you've tried all of this and the sensor is still completely unresponsive, there's a small chance it's a hardware fault. The sensor is built into the display assembly. Before you consider a repair, one last step is to back up your data and perform a factory reset through the settings menu, as a last-ditch effort to rule out deep-seated software corruption.
