When the flashlight on your Google Pixel 10 Pro is grayed out in the Quick Settings panel, it's a surprisingly common hiccup. You tap the tile and nothing happens, leaving you in the dark. The good news is it's almost always a simple software fix.
Close the Camera App
The camera and flashlight on your Pixel 10 Pro use the same LED hardware. If the Camera app is running, even in the background, the system reserves that LED and grays out the flashlight control. Swipe up from the bottom to see your recent apps and swipe the Camera app away to close it. The flashlight tile should light up and become usable again right away.
Force Restart Your Pixel
A quick reboot clears out temporary software glitches that can lock up hardware controls. On your Pixel 10 Pro, press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button together for about ten seconds. Let go when you see the Google logo appear on the screen. Once it boots up, check if the flashlight is available.
Check for an Overheating Phone
Android 15 will disable certain features, including the flashlight, if your Pixel 10 Pro gets too hot to prevent damage. This often happens after extended gaming, video recording, or fast charging in a warm environment. If the back of your phone feels unusually warm, set it down in a cooler spot for 10 to 15 minutes. The flashlight function should return once the temperature drops.
Use Google Assistant to Toggle It
Say "Hey Google, turn on the flashlight". If Assistant can activate the light but the Quick Settings tile remains unresponsive, it points to a minor interface bug. You can try turning it off with your voice as well. This action can sometimes reset the control's state and fix the grayed-out issue without a full restart.
Adjust the Flashlight Brightness Level
You might not have a grayed-out button, but a light set so dim it's invisible. Instead of just tapping the flashlight tile in Quick Settings, press and hold it. A small menu with a brightness slider will pop up. Slide the control all the way to the right to the brightest setting and see if the light turns on.
Toggle Battery Saver Mode
While Battery Saver shouldn't directly disable the flashlight, it can sometimes interfere with background processes that manage hardware. Pull down your notification shade twice and look for the Battery Saver icon, or go to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver. Turn it off if it's active, then test your flashlight again.
Update Your Apps and System
Go to the Play Store, tap your profile icon, and select Manage apps & device > Updates available to update all your apps. Then, check for a system update by going to Settings > System > System update. Google frequently patches bugs in these updates that can affect core functions like the flashlight.
Reset App Preferences
This resets permissions and default apps without deleting any of your personal data. It can clear up conflicts that cause system controls to malfunction. Navigate to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Menu (three dots) > Reset app preferences. Confirm the reset and then try your flashlight.
Test the LED with the Camera Flash
If every software fix fails, the LED hardware itself could be faulty. Open your Camera app and take a photo in a dark room with the flash set to "On." If the flash doesn't fire during the photo, the physical LED or its connection is likely damaged. Since the Pixel 10 Pro is a 2025 model, it should still be under warranty for a repair from Google or an authorized service provider.
