Your Eero 6+ firmware update is sitting there. The LED is pulsing but nothing is happening in the app. Or the Eero app says "Update started" but the progress bar hasn't moved in 30 minutes. This usually points to a handshake issue between the router and Eero's cloud servers, not a hardware problem.

A soft reset clears that temporary state without wiping your configuration. Grab a paperclip and find the reset button on the back. Press and hold it for about 7 seconds until the LED flashes yellow. That's a soft reboot, not a factory wipe. Once the LED goes solid again, open the Eero app. The update should have resumed on its own.

The Eero App Might Need a Nudge

The Eero 6+ doesn't have a web interface. The phone app is the only way to manage it, which means a glitchy app can make a completed update look stuck. Force-close the Eero app completely. On an iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and swipe the app away. On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Eero > Force Stop.

Open the app fresh and check Settings > Software Updates. You'll often see the real status there. If it says the update already applied, you're good. If it still shows as pending, you can manually retry it from that same screen.

Check Your Modem and Internet Connection

The Eero 6+ needs a stable internet connection to download the firmware file. If your modem dropped connection for even a second during the download, the process will hang indefinitely. Start by rebooting your modem directly. Unplug it, wait 60 seconds, plug it back in, and let it fully boot.

Then check the Eero app under Settings > Internet. If it shows any connection errors, fix those before trying the update again. Your modem is the easiest thing to overlook, and it's the most common culprit I see with stuck updates.

If You Have Eero Plus, Pause the Security Suite

Eero Plus includes ad blocking and content filtering that runs at the router level. Occasionally those filters flag the Eero update server as a threat and block the download. It's not common, but I've seen it happen. Open the Eero app, go to Discover > eero Plus, and toggle off Ad Blocking or eero Secure temporarily.

Check the update status after pausing. If it picks back up, that was your issue. Re-enable the security features once the firmware finishes installing.

Disable WPA3 in eero Labs

WPA3 is available on the Eero 6+ through eero Labs, but it's disabled by default. Eero leaves it opt-in because it can cause compatibility issues with older printers and IoT devices. In my experience, it can also interfere with automated router processes like firmware updates.

Go to Settings > Troubleshooting > My eero Labs and turn off WPA3 if you had it enabled. Leave it off until the update finishes. You can turn it back on after everything is stable.

Factory Reset the Eero 6+ as a Last Resort

If the update is truly bricked or stuck in a loop, a factory reset will clear out whatever is blocking the process. This wipes your network name, password, and any Eero Plus settings. You'll have to set everything up from scratch. Hold the reset button on the back for about 15 seconds. Wait for the LED to flash yellow, then red, then release.

The node will reboot. When the LED pulses blue, it's ready to be set up again in the Eero app. During the initial setup process, the router will automatically pull the latest firmware from Eero's servers. That fresh install usually bypasses whatever was causing the previous update to get stuck.
