You tap the Netflix icon on your Echo Show 15 (2nd Gen), and the screen sits on a spinner. Or Hulu freezes on a loading circle. Or Spotify just hangs there. Apps getting stuck on loading is a common issue on the 2024 Echo Show 15, especially after a firmware update or when Wi-Fi gets flaky. The good news: most of these fixes take less than a minute and don't require any tools.

Start by force-closing the stuck app. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings, then tap the app icon and select Force Stop (if available). On the Fire TV side, you can also double-press the Home button on the included Alexa Voice Remote to bring up recent apps, then swipe left or right to close the one that's hung. Relaunch the app and see if the loading screen clears.

Restart the Echo Show 15

A simple restart fixes more app hangs than most people expect. Unplug the power cable from the back of the Echo Show, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. The device boots up in about 90 seconds. Once the home screen appears, open the app that was stuck. I've seen this clear temporary memory leaks that accumulate after a few days of wall-mount life.

Check Your Wi-Fi Connection

Apps on the Echo Show 15 rely on a stable internet connection to load their content. Swipe down from the top and tap Settings > Network. Make sure your Echo Show is connected to your Wi-Fi and the signal strength shows as strong. If your router supports Wi-Fi 6E, the 6 GHz band can reduce interference, but if the Echo Show connected to a congested 2.4 GHz channel, that can cause app loading issues. Try moving the router closer or switching to a less crowded channel in your router admin.

If you recently changed your Wi-Fi name or password, the Echo Show may still be trying to connect to the old network. Reconnect it by going to Settings > Network > Forget This Network, then re-enter your network credentials.

Update the App Through Fire TV Mode

The 2nd Gen Echo Show 15 ships with Fire TV built-in, and apps are updated through that interface. Open the Fire TV home screen by pressing the Home button on the remote. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications. Find the stuck app, select it, and choose Check for Updates. If an update is available, install it. Outdated apps often have bugs that get fixed in newer versions.

You can also enable automatic updates: from the same menu, toggle Automatic Updates ON. That way future patches install without you having to check manually.

Clear the App's Cache and Data

Corrupted app cache is a prime suspect for loading loops. From Fire TV Settings, go to Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select the stuck app, then choose Clear Cache. If the problem continues, try Clear Data, note that this signs you out of that app and you'll need to log in again.

For Alexa-native apps (like Amazon Music or Prime Video), you can clear cache through the Echo Show's Alexa settings: say "Open Settings" or go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > see all apps, then find the app and clear cache there.

Sign Out and Back Into Your Amazon Account

Sometimes the account session running behind the scenes gets stale, and apps can't load their library or subscription info. Go to Settings > Profile & Family > Your Account and select Sign Out. Confirm, then sign back in with your Amazon credentials. This refreshes the auth tokens that apps rely on to pull your personal content.

If you have multiple user profiles (Family Hub), make sure the correct profile is active when you launch the app. A profile clash can also cause loading issues.

Update the Echo Show 15 System Software

Amazon pushes firmware updates to the Echo Show regularly, sometimes those updates introduce quirks (like the Family Hub widget desync issue listed in known bugs). Check what version you're on: Settings > Device Options > System Updates. If an update is available, install it. Amazon typically fixes app performance bugs in incremental releases.

A note: after a firmware update, widgets and apps may take a few minutes to re-sync. Give it time before panicking.

Check Amazon Service Status

If multiple apps are stuck on loading, not just one, the issue could be on Amazon's side. Open the Alexa app on your phone or visit the Amazon Web Services Health Dashboard. If there's a reported outage for Alexa or Fire TV services, no amount of tinkering with your Echo Show will help, just wait for Amazon to bring it back online.

Factory Reset the Echo Show 15 (2nd Gen)

This is the nuclear option. A factory reset wipes all your settings, signed-in apps, and personal data from the device. Before you proceed, know that your Amazon purchase history and Alexa settings are safe in the cloud, but you'll need to re-pair your Echo Show to the Alexa app and re-login to every streaming app.

Go to Settings > Device Options > Reset to Factory Defaults. Confirm. The Echo Show will restart and take you through the initial setup wizard, including wall-mount orientation (landscape or portrait) and Wi-Fi configuration. Once it's back up, download your apps fresh. If the loading issue was caused by a deep system corruption, this usually clears it.
