When your CMF Phone 2 Pro gets stuck and won't update, it's a real roadblock. You might see a download that never starts, an error message, or an installation that fails and loops back to the beginning. The good news is that a few specific checks usually get things moving again.
Free Up Storage Space on Your Phone
Nothing OS updates need a decent amount of free space to download and install properly. Head to Settings > Storage to see how much room you have left. I'd recommend having at least 5-6 GB free for a major update. You can quickly clear space by deleting old downloads, clearing app caches, or moving photos to the cloud.
Check Your Wi-Fi Connection
A stable, strong Wi-Fi connection is mandatory for downloading updates. Make sure you're connected and not trying to use mobile data. Test the connection by opening a webpage in your browser. If it's slow, try restarting your router or connecting to a different network. Public Wi-Fi networks often block large downloads like system updates.
Force Restart Your CMF Phone 2 Pro
This is often the quickest fix for a glitch that's preventing the update check. Simply press and hold the Power button on the side of your phone for about 10 seconds. Keep holding it until you see the Nothing logo appear and the phone restarts. Once it's back on, go back to Settings and try the update again.
Delete the Downloaded Update File
If an update started downloading but got corrupted, it can block any new attempts. Go to Settings > Storage and look through the list of files for the update package. It might be listed as "Android system update" or something similar. Tap on it and select Delete. Then, navigate to Settings > System > System update to start a fresh download.
Reset Your Network Settings
This clears all your saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile data settings, which can resolve underlying connection issues. Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. You'll need to re-enter your Wi-Fi password afterward. Once reconnected, attempt the system update again.
Update Using a Computer
If the over-the-air update just won't work, you can bypass it by using a PC. Connect your CMF Phone 2 Pro to your computer with a USB-C cable. You'll need to enable USB debugging, which is found in Settings > System > Developer options. Then, you can use the Android Flash Tool or similar official methods to sideload the update. This process downloads the update to your computer first, avoiding any storage or network issues on the phone itself.
Check for Server Issues
Sometimes the problem isn't on your end. During a major rollout of Nothing OS 3.0 or Android 15, the update servers can get overwhelmed. You can check community forums or the official Nothing website for any announced service outages. If servers are busy, the simplest fix is to wait a few hours and try the update again later in the evening or early the next morning.
Ensure Your Phone is Compatible and Charged
First, make sure your CMF Phone 2 Pro is actually eligible for the update you're trying to install. Nothing typically provides updates for several years. Also, your battery needs to be above 50% (or preferably plugged into a charger) to install an update. Using the official 33W charger or a compatible USB-PD charger is best to ensure it doesn't run out of power mid-update.
Check for Conflicting Apps
In some cases, a third-party app can interfere with the system update process. Apps like VPNs, aggressive battery savers, or certain security tools might block the connection. Try temporarily disabling any VPN apps and closing all other apps before starting the update. You can also try booting into Safe Mode to see if the update proceeds, which would indicate an app is causing the problem.
