Seeing that "storage full" warning on your CMF Phone 2 Pro can really stop you in your tracks. You can't take new photos, update apps, or download that important file. The good news is that Nothing OS is pretty clean, so you're likely dealing with your own files and app data. Let's walk through the best ways to clear space and get back to using your phone.

Find Out What's Taking Up Space

First, let's see exactly what's filling your storage. Open Settings > Storage on your CMF Phone 2 Pro. This screen gives you a detailed breakdown, showing which apps and file types are using the most space. Give it a moment to calculate everything. You'll probably find Photos, Videos, and a few specific apps like social media or games at the top of the list.

Clear App Caches and Data

Apps like Instagram, TikTok, and Spotify store a lot of temporary data, called cache, which can balloon in size over time. In your Settings > Storage menu, tap on any large app. You'll see options to Clear Cache and Clear Data. Clearing the cache is safe and frees up space instantly without affecting your login or settings. Clearing data is more drastic, as it resets the app like it's freshly installed.

For streaming apps, you can also manage downloads directly inside the app. Open Spotify, Netflix, or YouTube Music and check your downloaded playlists, shows, or podcasts. Deleting content you've already watched or listened to can recover several gigabytes very quickly.

Manage Your Photos and Videos

This is almost always the biggest culprit. Open your Google Photos or Gallery app and start by clearing out the junk. Look for old screenshots, duplicate photos, and blurry shots you'll never need. Don't forget to check your Downloads folder for saved images and videos from messaging apps.

After you delete items, you must empty the trash. In Google Photos, tap your profile picture, go to Trash, and select Empty Trash. In the Gallery app, look for a Recently Deleted album and clear it. Files can sit there for 30 or 60 days, still taking up space.

Use Google Files to Clean Junk

Nothing OS includes the Google Files app, which is a fantastic tool for this. Open Files by Google and tap the Clean button on the bottom left. The app will scan for cache files, duplicate photos, downloaded documents, and other low-value items. You can review its suggestions and delete them with a single tap. I've found this can easily free up 5-10GB on a cluttered phone.

Review and Delete Large Files

Back in Settings > Storage, scroll down and tap on Files or Other apps. This section can hide large downloaded PDFs, ZIP files, movies, or work documents you've forgotten about. Tap into it and sort by size to find the biggest files. You might be surprised to find a 2GB video file or a massive presentation hiding in there.

Check for System Updates

Sometimes, a pending system update can temporarily inflate the storage used by the "System" category. Go to Settings > System > System update to check if an update is available. Installing the latest version of Nothing OS can sometimes resolve odd storage reporting issues and clean up old update files automatically.

Uninstall Apps You Don't Use

Take a critical look at your home screens. Long-press on any app icon and select App info, then tap Uninstall. Since the CMF Phone 2 Pro has minimal bloatware, any pre-installed apps are likely useful, but your own downloads are fair game. Removing just a couple of large games you haven't opened in months can make a huge difference.

Move Files to Cloud Storage or a Computer

If you have a lot of photos and videos you want to keep but don't need on your phone daily, back them up. You can use Google Photos with its high-quality free backup option, or connect your phone to a computer via USB-C. Simply drag and drop your DCIM folder and other important files to your computer's hard drive to create a local backup, then delete them from the phone.

Perform a Force Restart

If your storage numbers seem stuck or incorrect, a simple reboot can help the system recalculate. Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until the phone restarts and you see the Nothing logo. This doesn't delete any data, but it can clear up temporary glitches that might be affecting the storage report.
