Seeing a "Not registered on network" error on your CMF Phone 2 Pro is frustrating. It means your phone can't connect to your carrier's cell towers, so calls, texts, and mobile data won't work. This error can pop up for a few different reasons, from a simple software hiccup to a more serious issue with your SIM card or network settings.

Before you worry about hardware, start with the quickest fix. Pull down the notification shade from the top of your screen and tap the Airplane Mode icon to turn it on. Wait about 15 seconds, then tap it again to turn it off. This forces your phone's cellular radio to completely restart and re-register with the network, which often clears up temporary glitches.

Restart Your CMF Phone 2 Pro

A full restart is the next logical step. It clears the phone's memory and reloads all the system processes, including the one that handles network connectivity. Just press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then tap "Restart." Wait for the phone to fully boot up and see if the signal bars return.

If the phone is unresponsive, you can perform a force restart. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds or until you feel a vibration and see the Nothing logo appear on the screen. This is a hard reboot that can kick-start a stuck system.

Check and Reseat Your SIM Card

A loose or dirty SIM card is a very common culprit. Turn off your CMF Phone 2 Pro first. Locate the SIM tray on the frame, use the ejector tool (or a small paperclip) to pop it open, and carefully remove the SIM card.

Inspect the gold contacts on the SIM for any dust or corrosion. Give both the SIM and the slot in the tray a gentle blow to dislodge any debris. Reinsert the SIM card, making sure it's seated firmly and oriented correctly, then push the tray back in. Power the phone back on.

Verify Your Carrier Account Status

Sometimes the problem isn't your phone at all. If your prepaid plan has run out of credit or your postpaid account has been suspended due to a missed payment, your carrier will block network access. The error message on your phone will be the same.

Try logging into your carrier's account portal from a computer or another phone, or give their customer service a call. Confirm your account is active and in good standing before spending more time troubleshooting the device itself.

Update Nothing OS

Nothing regularly releases software updates for the CMF Phone 2 Pro that include bug fixes and improvements for network connectivity. An outdated version of Nothing OS might have a known issue that's already been patched.

Go to Settings > System > System update and tap "Check for update." If an update is available, connect to Wi-Fi and install it. The clean, lightweight nature of Nothing OS means these updates are usually quick. After the phone restarts, check your network status.

Reset the Network Settings

This step clears all your saved network configurations, including Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and cellular network preferences. It's a great way to wipe out any corrupted settings that are preventing a proper handshake with your carrier.

On your CMF Phone 2 Pro, navigate to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap on Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. Confirm the action and enter your PIN if prompted. Your phone will reboot and you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices, but it often resolves persistent network errors.

Manually Select Your Network Operator

Your phone might be trying to automatically connect to a network that's weak or undergoing maintenance. You can force it to search for and connect to your specific carrier manually.

Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Tap on your active SIM and select Network operators. Turn off "Choose automatically." Your phone will scan for available networks. When the list appears, select your carrier's name from the list. This can establish a more stable connection.

Change the Preferred Network Type

If you're in an area with spotty 5G coverage, your phone might struggle to register on that band. Switching down to LTE can sometimes provide a more reliable connection and clear the error.

In the same SIM settings menu (Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > [Your SIM]), look for "Preferred network type." Tap on it and change the selection from "5G/LTE/3G/2G" to just "LTE/3G/2G." Give it a moment to switch over. I've seen this work when a new 5G tower is having issues.

Try a Different SIM Card

This test is crucial for figuring out where the problem lies. If you can borrow a known-working SIM card from a friend or family member (even from a different carrier), insert it into your CMF Phone 2 Pro.

If the new SIM card connects to a network without any "not registered" errors, then your original SIM card is likely damaged or deactivated. You'll need to contact your carrier for a replacement. If the borrowed SIM also fails, the issue is almost certainly with your phone's software or internal hardware.

Perform a Factory Reset

This is your last resort software fix. A factory reset will erase all your apps, data, and settings, returning the phone to its out-of-the-box state. It will eliminate any deep-seated software corruption.

Back up everything important first. Then, go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm. After the reset is complete, set up the phone minimally, insert your SIM, and see if it registers on the network. If the error persists after a clean factory reset, the issue is likely a hardware fault with the phone's cellular modem or antenna, and you should contact Nothing support.
