A blurry camera on your CMF Phone 2 Pro can turn a great shot into a disappointing one. The issue might be constant, only happen in low light, or affect just one of the lenses. Before you worry about a hardware fault, there are several straightforward things you can try to clear things up.
Clean the Camera Lenses
Start with the simplest fix. Grab a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth and gently wipe the camera lenses on the back of your phone. The plastic back panel can attract fingerprints and smudges more easily, and even a tiny bit of grease can cause a hazy, blurry effect in your photos. Avoid using your shirt or any rough material that could scratch the lens coating.
Remove Any Case or Accessory
Take your phone out of its case and snap a test photo. Some cases, especially third-party ones, don't have perfectly aligned cutouts and can actually cover the edge of a lens or create a reflective surface that causes blur. Also, if you're using any of the modular back accessories, make sure they are snapped on correctly and aren't interfering with the camera module.
Tap to Focus Properly
Open the Camera app and tap directly on your subject on the screen. You should see a focus box appear. The camera's autofocus can sometimes get confused, especially with busy backgrounds or in low light. Tapping tells the phone exactly where to focus. For more control, you can press and hold on the screen to lock the focus and exposure.
Switch Between Camera Lenses
The CMF Phone 2 Pro has multiple lenses. Try switching between them in the camera app to see if the blur is isolated to one. If your photos are clear on the main lens but blurry on the ultrawide, for example, then you know the issue is specific to that sensor or its lens cover, which might just need a more thorough cleaning.
Force Close and Reopen the Camera App
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold to enter the recent apps view. Find the Camera app and swipe it away to close it completely. Then, reopen it and try taking a photo again. This clears any temporary software glitch that might be causing the autofocus or image processing to malfunction.
Restart Your Phone
If closing the app didn't help, a full restart can clear out deeper software hiccups. Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you feel a vibration and see the phone restart. This resets all the camera processes and can often resolve persistent blurriness that isn't caused by a physical issue.
Check Your Camera Settings
Head into your Camera app's settings menu. Make sure any special modes like a portrait blur effect or a filter aren't accidentally left on. Also, in low-light situations, the phone might be using a slower shutter speed, which can cause motion blur if your hand isn't steady. Try tapping the moon icon for Night mode to let the phone stabilize the shot properly.
Look for Condensation or Moisture
If you've moved from a cold environment to a warm one, or if there's high humidity, condensation can form on or inside the camera lenses. This will make all your photos look foggy. Let the phone sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes to allow any moisture to dissipate naturally. Don't try to blow on the lenses, as that can make it worse.
Update Nothing OS
Software updates often include camera improvements and bug fixes. Go to Settings > System > System update to check for any available updates. Since the CMF Phone 2 Pro runs the clean Nothing OS, a glitch affecting image processing could be something that's already been patched.
Reset the Camera App Settings
If the problem started after you changed a bunch of settings, you can reset them. Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps, find and select the Camera app, then tap Storage & cache. Tap on Clear storage or Clear data. This will reset the camera app to its default settings without deleting your photos.
