Your Powerbeats Pro 2 case shows a solid white LED but the buds drop from 30% to dead in ten minutes, or the left earbud refuses to charge past 15%, or you put the case on a wireless pad and nothing happens at all. These are all fixable without a trip to the Apple Store.

Pull both earbuds out of the case and look at the charging contacts inside the wells. If you see anything on those metal surfaces, that's your fix. Here's the full breakdown of what usually goes wrong.

Start With the USB-C Port

Pocket lint is the number one reason a Powerbeats Pro 2 case stops taking a charge. Take a close look at the USB-C port on the back of the case. Shine a flashlight inside and you'll probably see a compacted plug of fluff at the bottom.

Use a wooden toothpick or a plastic SIM eject tool to gently scrape it out. Do not use anything metal, the contact pins inside the port are fragile and shorting them ends the case. This single step clears up most cases that refuse to charge over USB-C.

Clean Those Charging Contacts

Earwax and sweat buildup on the charging contacts inside the case is incredibly common, especially since these are workout earbuds with IPX4 sweat resistance that gets rinsed off after exercise. The gold pins at the bottom of each earbud and the spring-loaded contacts inside the case wells need a solid connection.

Use a dry microfiber cloth and wipe each contact. For anything stubborn, dampen a cotton swab very lightly with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Don't soak anything, just enough to break up the gunk. Give it a couple minutes to dry, then put the buds back in and close the lid. Check the charge levels after five minutes and both sides should be climbing together.

The Cable Might Be the Culprit

USB-C cables fail silently. A cable that charged your case perfectly last week might not deliver enough power today. Swap to a different cable, ideally one you know works with another device.

Plug the cable into a wall adapter that delivers at least 5W, not a laptop's USB port. Computer ports often supply inconsistent power and the case can sit at the same percentage for hours. If a different cable fixes it, throw the old one out.

Is Qi Wireless Charging Working?

The Powerbeats Pro 2 case supports standard Qi wireless charging at 5W input. If you set the case on a pad and the front LED doesn't light up, the alignment is off or there's a barrier.

Take any silicone case or skin off the charging case first. Thicker accessories block the charging coil from reaching the pad. Place the bare case directly in the center of the pad, flat side down with the lid closed. The LED should light up within a second or two. Nothing yet, try a different spot on the pad or a different pad entirely. Some third-party Qi chargers have small sweet spots, the case magnets aren't as strong as MagSafe so it shifts easily.

If the Case Lid Sensor Acts Up

The case has a magnetic lid sensor that tells the earbuds they're inside and should start charging. If that sensor gets confused, the case thinks the lid is open when it's closed, and the buds never initialize charging.

Check whether the status LED responds when you open and close the lid. Open it and the LED should glow. Close it and the LED should turn off after a few seconds. If the LED stays on constantly with the lid closed, the sensor is stuck. A quick fix, snap the lid open and shut a few times firmly. If that doesn't help, place the case on a charger for a few minutes anyway, sometimes the power cycle resets that sensor.

Reset the Powerbeats Pro 2

If the physical fixes didn't help, the firmware state might be stuck. Put both earbuds in the case with the lid closed. Find the system button inside the case, it's a small button on the inner wall near the hinge.

Hold that button for 15 seconds. Release when the front LEDs flash red and white. That's the full factory reset. After the reset, the earbuds will be removed from all your paired devices. Re-pair by holding the system button again with the case open, the LED will pulse white, and your phone should see the Powerbeats Pro 2 in Bluetooth settings. On iOS, the pairing animation pops up automatically. On Android, open the Beats app.

Give the Case a Full Charge First

Sometimes the buds aren't charging because the case itself is dead. The case battery powers the charging circuits, so if it's flat, the buds get nothing even if they're sitting in the wells.

Plug the case into power with a USB-C cable for at least 15 minutes with the lid closed. Then open the lid near your phone. On iOS, the battery widget should show the case percentage and each bud's level. On Android, open the Beats app to check. If the case stayed at the same percentage after 15 minutes plugged in, the case battery has a problem. The buds won't charge until the case does, so leave it on the charger for an hour and check again.

Check the Ear Hook Fit

This one sounds unrelated but I've seen it cause charging headaches. The ear hooks angle the earbuds in a specific way when they sit in the case. If you've been bending the hooks frequently to adjust fit, they might have warped slightly.

Take each earbud out and look at how it sits in the case well. The metal contacts on the bottom of the bud should align perfectly with the pins in the well. If the hook angle is pushing the bud off-center, the connection breaks. Gently bend the ear hook back to its original angle. The hooks are adjustable, they're designed to be bent, but go slowly. A millimeter can make the difference between charging and not charging.

Try the Beats App for a Firmware Check

Like Apple's AirPods, the Powerbeats Pro 2 update firmware silently in the background. But the process is invisible, you don't get a notification. To force a check, put the earbuds in the case, plug the case in, and leave it next to your paired phone for at least 30 minutes with the lid closed.

On Android, open the Beats app and check for firmware information under device details. On iOS, check Settings > Bluetooth, tap the (i) next to your Powerbeats Pro 2, and look at the firmware version. If charging bugs were fixed in a recent firmware, yours needs to update overnight. Leave the case plugged in and paired overnight, the update usually happens when you're sleeping.
