If your ASUS ROG Phone 9 is taking forever to charge, you're missing out on one of its key features. That 65W HyperCharge should get you from empty to a full battery in no time, but a few common issues can bring it to a crawl.
Use the Official 65W HyperCharge Adapter
To hit the maximum 65W speed, you need the specific adapter that came in the box. It's a USB-C Power Delivery (PD) PPS charger. While other USB-C PD chargers will work, they'll often cap out at a lower wattage, like 30W or 45W. I'd start by making sure you're using the original brick.
Check Your USB-C Cable
The cable matters just as much as the adapter. You need a high-quality USB-C to USB-C cable that can handle the high current. The one included with the phone is rated for it. Aftermarket cables, especially thin or long ones, might only support slower charging. If you see "Charging rapidly" or the HyperCharge animation, you're good.
Enable Bypass Charging in Game Mode
This is a pro tip for gamers. When you're playing a heavy game and plugged in, the phone has to manage both charging the battery and powering the system, which creates heat. Go into the Armoury Crate > Game Genie settings while in a game and look for Bypass Charging. This feature powers the phone directly from the cable, skipping the battery to reduce heat and potentially maintain better performance.
Let It Cool Down First
The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is powerful but can get warm during long sessions. If the phone is hot, it will automatically slow down charging to protect the battery. Take it out of its case, move it off soft surfaces like your bed, and let it sit for a few minutes before plugging it in. Charging on a cool, hard surface is best.
Clean the USB-C Port
The ROG Phone 9's port can easily collect pocket lint and dust, which blocks a solid connection. Shine a light in there. If you see debris, gently use a wooden toothpick or a plastic flosser to scrape it out. Don't use metal. A clean port is essential for those high-wattage handshakes.
Restart Your Phone
Sometimes a simple software glitch can mess with the power management. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds until you feel it vibrate and the ROG logo appears. This force restart clears any temporary bugs that might be limiting charge speed.
Check for System Updates
ASUS releases updates that can optimize charging algorithms and fix bugs. Go to Settings > System > System update and check for any available downloads. Running the latest software, especially on Android 15, ensures everything is working as intended.
Turn Off the AniMe Vision Display
The cool LED matrix on the back uses extra power. If it's running a complex animation while charging, it's drawing current that could be going to the battery. You can disable it temporarily by going into your Armoury Crate > AniMe Vision settings and turning it off. See if your charging rate improves.
Try a Different Power Outlet
It sounds too simple, but it works. The outlet or power strip you're using might be faulty or not delivering stable power. Unplug your adapter and try a different wall outlet in another room. This rules out a problem with your home's wiring.
Inspect Your Charging Gear
Cables and adapters wear out. Look for any fraying, bent connectors, or loose parts. Try a different, known-good 65W USB-C PD charger and cable if you have one. If fast charging works with the new set, you've found your culprit. The original accessories can be replaced through ASUS.
