When your Fire TV Cube remote won't pair, you lose the easiest way to navigate and control your entertainment. The good news is this is usually a quick fix. Let's get your remote talking to the Cube again.

Restart Your Fire TV Cube

This is the first thing I'd try. A simple restart clears up temporary software glitches that can break the Bluetooth connection. Unplug the power cord from the back of your Cube, wait a full 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. Wait for the white light on the front to settle, then try pairing the remote again.

Replace the Remote Batteries

It sounds obvious, but weak batteries are a top culprit for pairing problems. Pop open the battery compartment on the back of your remote and put in two fresh AA batteries. Make sure the positive and negative ends are facing the correct way as shown inside the compartment.

Re-Pair the Remote Manually

If the remote was unpaired, you need to manually put it back into pairing mode. Press and hold the Home button on the remote for about 10 seconds. You should see a message appear on your TV screen asking if you want to pair the remote. Use the navigation ring on the remote to select "Pair" and press the center button to confirm.

Use the Fire TV App as a Temporary Remote

While you sort out the physical remote, download the Amazon Fire TV app on your smartphone. Make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Cube. Open the app and it should find your device, letting you use your phone's touchscreen as a full remote to navigate and access settings.

Check for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Interference

The Cube's remote uses Bluetooth, which can be disrupted by other signals. If your Cube is using Wi-Fi, try switching to the built-in Ethernet port for a wired connection. Also, move other Bluetooth devices like speakers or headphones farther away from the Cube to see if that clears up the pairing issue.

Forget and Re-Pair from Settings

You can force the Cube to forget the old remote pairing. Using the Fire TV app on your phone, navigate to Settings > Controllers & Bluetooth Devices > Amazon Fire TV Remotes. Select the problematic remote and choose "Unpair." Then, put the physical remote back into pairing mode by holding the Home button.

Reset the Remote Itself

Sometimes the remote needs a hard reset. Remove the batteries, then press and hold every button on the remote for 30 seconds. This drains any residual power. After that, put the batteries back in and immediately hold the Home button for 10 seconds to initiate pairing.

Check the HDMI Connection and Input

Since the Cube sits between your cable box and TV, a bad HDMI handshake can cause weird issues. Ensure the HDMI cable from the Cube to your TV is firmly seated at both ends. Also, double-check that your TV is set to the correct HDMI input that the Cube is plugged into.

Update Your Fire TV Cube Software

An outdated system software version can cause remote connectivity bugs. Using the Fire TV app on your phone, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates. Install any available updates, as they often include stability fixes for Bluetooth.

Perform a Factory Reset on the Cube

If nothing else works, a factory reset is your last resort. This will erase all your apps, logins, and settings. Using the Fire TV app, go to Settings > My Fire TV > Reset to Factory Defaults. After the Cube restarts, you'll go through the initial setup, which includes pairing your remote fresh.
