So your Xiaomi 14T Pro won't charge. You plug it in, but the screen stays dark, or maybe you just get a slow trickle instead of the blazing-fast 120W speeds you're used to. It's a frustrating spot to be in, especially with a phone that's supposed to go from zero to full in under 20 minutes. The good news is, this is almost always something you can fix yourself without a trip to a service center.

Whether it's a stubborn USB-C port, a software hiccup in HyperOS, or the phone just getting too hot, we'll walk through the most effective fixes. Let's start with the quickest solutions and work our way through.

Force Restart Your Xiaomi 14T Pro

This is the universal first step for any weird phone behavior. A simple force restart can clear out temporary glitches in HyperOS that might be interfering with the charging circuit. It takes about 15 seconds and fixes more problems than you'd think.

For the Xiaomi 14T Pro, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds or longer. Keep holding it until you feel a vibration or see the Xiaomi logo appear on the screen. Once it boots back up, plug in the charger and check for the charging indicator.

Clean the USB-C Charging Port

This is the single most common fix for any phone that won't charge. The 14T Pro's USB-C port is a magnet for pocket lint, dust, and debris. Over time, that gunk packs in so tightly that your cable can't make a proper connection.

Grab a bright light and look directly into the port. If you see any dark material packed in the bottom, you've found your culprit. Turn the phone off first for safety. Then, use a wooden toothpick or a plastic flosser to gently scrape the debris out. Avoid metal tools, as they can scratch the delicate gold contacts.

You can also try a quick blast of compressed air from a can, holding it a few inches away. After cleaning, plug the cable back in. It should click in firmly without any wobble.

Use the Right Charger and Cable

The Xiaomi 14T Pro supports incredibly fast 120W wired charging, but it needs the specific charger and cable that came in the box to hit those speeds. If you're using a different USB-C charger, even a powerful one, it might not initiate a charge at all or will charge very slowly.

Dig out the original 120W charger and the thick USB-C cable that shipped with your phone. Plug it directly into a wall outlet. I'd also recommend removing the phone case, especially if it's a thick, rugged one, as it can sometimes prevent the cable from seating fully.

If the original charger works, then your other charger or cable is the problem. The 14T Pro is picky about its power delivery protocol, so not every high-wattage charger will be compatible.

Check for Overheating

The 120W charging on the 14T Pro generates significant heat, and the Dimensity 9300+ chipset can also get warm during use. If the phone's temperature gets too high, it will automatically slow down or stop charging to protect the battery. This is a safety feature, not a defect.

If the phone feels hot to the touch, unplug it and let it cool down for 10-15 minutes. Move it to a cooler spot, away from direct sunlight or blankets. Once it's cooled, try charging again. For long-term battery health, consider enabling the battery protection mode that caps charging at 80%.

You can find this in Settings > Battery > Battery saver > Battery protection. This reduces heat and stress on the battery during charging sessions.

Try Wireless Charging

Your Xiaomi 14T Pro supports up to 50W wireless charging with a compatible Qi charger. This is a great way to test if the problem is with the USB-C port or something else. If the phone charges wirelessly but not with a cable, you've isolated the issue to the physical port.

Place the phone correctly on a wireless charger. Remember that thick cases, especially those with metal rings or plates, can block the charging coil. If you don't have a 50W Xiaomi wireless charger, a standard Qi pad will still work, just at a slower speed.

Update HyperOS Software

Software bugs can sometimes break charging functionality. Xiaomi releases updates to HyperOS that often include fixes for power management and hardware communication. It's worth checking if you're running the latest version.

Go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version and tap "Check for updates." If an update is available, download and install it. Make sure your phone has at least 30% battery or is plugged in during the update process.

After the update completes, restart your phone and test the charging again. I've seen minor updates resolve charging quirks on several Xiaomi models.

Boot into Safe Mode

A third-party app you installed could be causing the problem. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all downloaded apps, letting you see if one of them is the culprit. To enter Safe Mode on the Xiaomi 14T Pro, press and hold the power button until the power off menu appears.

Then, press and hold the "Power off" option on the screen. A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK." Once the phone restarts, you'll see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner. Try charging the phone now. If it charges normally in Safe Mode, you have a problematic app.

You'll need to restart to exit Safe Mode, then start uninstalling recently downloaded apps one by one to find the offender.

Check for Liquid or Physical Damage

While the 14T Pro has some water resistance, it's not foolproof. If the phone has been exposed to moisture, liquid could be trapped in the USB-C port, causing a short circuit. Look carefully inside the port for any signs of corrosion, moisture, or discoloration.

Also, inspect the port for physical damage. Is the center tongue bent or broken? Are the surrounding metal edges dented from a drop? Even minor physical damage can prevent the cable from connecting properly. If you see any obvious damage, the port will likely need professional repair.

Perform a Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If all else fails, a factory reset can wipe out deep-seated software corruption. This will erase all your data, so it's an absolute last resort. Make sure you have a recent backup via Xiaomi Cloud or Google Drive before proceeding.

To reset, go to Settings > About phone > Factory reset. Follow the on-screen prompts to erase all data. After the phone reboots and goes through the setup screen, try charging it before you restore your apps and data. If it charges fine on a fresh system, the issue was software-related.
