If your OPPO Find X8 Pro feels unusually warm, you're not alone. The phone's powerful Dimensity 9400 chipset and fast charging can generate heat, especially during demanding tasks. While some warmth is normal, excessive heat can lead to performance throttling, rapid battery drain, and in rare cases, trigger a safety shutdown. Let's get it cooled down.
The quickest thing to try is closing all your recent apps. Swipe up from the bottom and hold, then tap the clear all button. Next, take the phone out of its case if you're using one, as some cases can trap heat. Finally, move it to a cooler spot away from direct sunlight. If it's hot to the touch, I'd stop charging it for a bit, even with the included 80W SUPERVOOC charger.
Check for Rogue Apps and Background Processes
Sometimes, a single misbehaving app is the culprit. Head to Settings > Battery to see which apps have been consuming the most power recently. If you see a social media app, game, or camera app at the top of the list, that's a likely suspect.
Force stop the problematic app by going to Settings > Apps > Manage Apps, finding it in the list, and tapping "Force Stop." You can also check if it's set to run in the background excessively. In the app's info page, go to Battery usage and try setting it to "Restrict background activity."
Manage Your Charging Habits
The Find X8 Pro's 80W wired and 50W wireless AIRVOOC charging is incredibly fast, but this speed generates more heat than slower charging. If the phone is getting hot while charging, take it off the charger for 15-20 minutes to let it cool. Always use the official charger and cable that came in the box for the best thermal management.
For wireless charging, remember you need OPPO's proprietary AIRVOOC charger to hit 50W. Placing it on a standard Qi charger will limit you to 15W, which ironically might run cooler for overnight top-ups. Avoid using the phone for intensive tasks like gaming or video recording while it's fast charging, as this combines two major heat sources.
Adjust Display and Performance Settings
That brilliant 120Hz display is a battery and heat generator. If the phone is warm, try lowering the refresh rate. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Screen Refresh Rate and switch from "High" (120Hz) to "Standard" (60Hz). You can also reduce the screen brightness manually instead of relying on auto-brightness.
ColorOS includes performance modes that can affect heat. Swipe down the notification shade twice and look for a performance mode toggle, or find it in Settings > Battery. Switch from a high-performance mode to a balanced or power-saving mode. This gently reins in the Dimensity 9400 chip, reducing heat without a huge impact on daily smoothness.
Update Your Software and Clear Cache
OPPO regularly releases software updates that can optimize thermal performance and fix bugs causing CPU overload. Go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update to check for and install any available updates. It's a good idea to be on Wi-Fi and have your phone charged above 50% before starting.
If the phone started getting hot after a recent update, try clearing the system cache. Turn off the phone, then press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons together until the ColorOS recovery menu appears. Use the volume keys to navigate to "Wipe Cache" and press the power button to select it. This doesn't delete any personal data.
Give the Phone a Break During Intensive Tasks
The camera system, particularly when using the periscope zoom for extended periods of video recording or high-resolution photography, can push the processor hard. If you're planning a long photo session, try to take breaks between shots and avoid recording 4K video in very hot environments.
Similarly, extended gaming sessions will make any flagship phone warm. Take advantage of natural breaks to let the phone cool down. Playing in a cooler, air-conditioned room can make a noticeable difference compared to a warm one.
Perform a Force Restart
If the phone is hot and becoming unresponsive, a force restart can clear any temporary software glitches. Simply press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you feel a vibration and see the OPPO logo appear on screen. This is a safe first step when things feel off.
For a more thorough reset if problems persist, you can back up your data and try a factory reset via Settings > Additional Settings > Back Up and Reset > Erase All Data. This will remove any problematic app data or settings that might be causing a persistent background load.
