A black screen on your OPPO Find X8 Pro can be a real scare, but it's often a temporary glitch rather than a permanent failure. The phone might be on and running with just the display frozen, or a deeper software crash could be the culprit. Let's walk through the steps to get your screen back.

Force Restart Your Phone

This is almost always the first and best step. Simply press and hold the Power button on the right side of the phone for at least 10 seconds. Keep holding it until you feel a vibration or see the OPPO logo appear on the screen. This forces a hard reboot and can clear out many temporary software freezes, even when the display seems completely dead.

Charge Your Phone Properly

A fully drained battery will show nothing. Grab the 80W SUPERVOOC charger that came in the box and plug it in. Wait for at least 15 to 20 minutes before trying to turn it on. If you see no charging indicator after that time, try a different USB-C cable and power source. The fast charging requires a compatible cable, so using a generic one might only give you a slow trickle charge.

If you're using wireless charging, remember you need the proprietary AIRVOOC charger to get the full 50W speed. A standard Qi charger will work, but it maxes out at around 15W, so charging from empty will take much longer. Make sure the phone is centered correctly on the charging pad.

Check the Screen Brightness

It sounds simple, but sometimes the auto-brightness can get stuck at an extremely low level, making the screen appear black. Try double-tapping the screen or pressing the power button to wake it, then swipe down from the top to open the Quick Settings panel. Feel for the brightness slider and drag it all the way up. You can also ask Google Assistant to "set brightness to maximum" if voice commands are still working.

Inspect for Physical Damage

Take a close look at the screen and body for any cracks, deep scratches, or signs of a drop. If the phone still vibrates for notifications, makes sounds, or the alert slider on the side works, then the device is likely functioning but the display or its internal connector is damaged. This kind of hardware issue will require a professional repair.

Boot into Safe Mode

A third-party app could be causing the system to crash. To check, you can boot into Safe Mode. First, force restart the phone as described earlier. As soon as you see the OPPO logo appear, press and hold the Volume Down button. Keep holding it until you see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner of the screen. If the phone works normally here, a recently installed app is the problem. You can then restart normally and uninstall apps one by one to find the culprit.

Check for Water or Moisture

The Find X8 Pro has some water resistance, but it's not foolproof. If the phone was recently exposed to liquid, moisture could have seeped into the display connectors. Power the phone off immediately if you can and leave it in a dry, warm place for at least 48 hours. Avoid using a hair dryer or putting it in rice, as both can cause further damage. If the screen remains black after thorough drying, you're likely looking at liquid damage that needs professional attention.

Update or Restore via Computer

If the phone is still unresponsive, a software restore might be necessary. Connect your Find X8 Pro to a computer using a USB-C cable. On your computer, you might need to install the OPPO USB drivers, which you can find on their official website. If the computer recognizes the device, you can try using the official OPPO recovery tool or a tool like MSM Download Tool to flash the firmware, which is a deep-level reinstall of the ColorOS software.

Enter Recovery Mode

When the computer doesn't see the phone normally, you need to force it into Recovery Mode. Make sure the phone is off. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously. When you feel a vibration, release the Power button but keep holding Volume Down until you see the recovery menu. From here, you can use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select options like "Wipe data/factory reset" or "Reboot." A factory reset will erase all your data, so use this as a last resort.

Consider a Hardware Fault

If none of the software fixes work, the issue is likely with the phone's hardware. The Dimensity 9400 chipset is powerful but can run warm during heavy use, and in rare cases, thermal stress could affect components. It could also be a faulty display, a loose internal ribbon cable, or a problem with the main logic board. Since the Find X8 Pro is a 2024 device, it should still be under warranty if you purchased it new, so contacting OPPO support for a repair or replacement is your next step.
