Seeing a "SIM Not Provisioned" error on your OnePlus Open can stop you in your tracks, especially when you need to make a call or use mobile data. This message means your phone can't properly connect to your carrier's network, so your SIM card isn't being recognized for service.

It's a common hiccup that has a few usual suspects. The good news is you can almost always fix it yourself without needing a trip to a store.

Restart Your OnePlus Open First

This is the universal first step for a reason. A simple restart clears out temporary software glitches that can interfere with the modem. Just press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then tap restart.

If the phone is unresponsive, you can force a restart. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds or until you feel it vibrate and see the OnePlus logo appear on the screen.

Check Your SIM Card Activation and Status

If this is a brand new SIM card you just received, it might not be activated yet. Even if you transferred service, the activation process on your carrier's end can sometimes take a few hours or require a manual push.

The other common reason is an account issue. For prepaid plans, a low balance can suspend service. For postpaid accounts, a billing problem could be the cause. It's worth checking your account status through your carrier's app or giving them a quick call.

Reinsert the SIM Card

The SIM tray on the OnePlus Open is on the left side of the frame. Grab the included SIM ejector tool or a small paperclip, and gently push it into the pinhole to pop the tray out.

Take a look at the gold contacts on the SIM card itself. If you see any dust, lint, or slight corrosion, gently wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. Carefully reseat the SIM card in the tray, making sure it's lying completely flat and the notched corner is aligned, then slide the tray back in until it clicks.

Toggle Airplane Mode

This trick forces your phone's radio to disconnect from the network and reconnect fresh, which can resolve provisioning errors. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel.

Tap the airplane icon to turn it on. Wait for about 30 seconds, then tap it again to turn it off. You should see the network signal bars disappear and then reappear as it searches for your carrier again.

Update Your Phone Software

Outdated system software can sometimes have bugs that affect network connectivity. OnePlus regularly releases updates through OxygenOS that can fix these kinds of issues.

Go to Settings > About device > OxygenOS version and tap on it to check for an update. If one is available, make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and has a good charge (the included 67W SUPERVOOC charger is perfect for this) before installing it.

Manually Select Your Network Operator

Your phone usually picks the best network automatically, but sometimes this process gets stuck. You can manually tell it which carrier to use. Head to Settings > Mobile network.

Tap on Network operators. The phone will search for a moment. When the list appears, select your specific carrier's name from the options. Don't choose one that says "Forbidden," as that means your SIM isn't allowed on that network.

Reset Your Network Settings

This is a more thorough step that will wipe all your saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile network preferences. It often clears up persistent connection problems.

To do this, open Settings and go to Additional settings. Tap on Back up and reset, then select Reset phone. Choose Reset network settings and confirm. Your phone will reboot, and you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices afterward.

Test the SIM Card in Another Phone

This is the best way to figure out if the problem is with your OnePlus Open or the SIM card itself. If you have access to another unlocked Android phone, power it off, insert your SIM, and turn it back on.

If the SIM works perfectly in the other device, then the issue is likely with your OnePlus Open's software or hardware. If the "SIM Not Provisioned" error follows the card to the other phone, then the problem is definitely with the SIM or your carrier account.

Contact Your Mobile Carrier

If you've tried everything here and the error persists, your carrier's support team needs to take a look. They can check for outages in your area, verify your account provisioning on their backend systems, and run deeper diagnostics on your line.

They can also issue a replacement SIM card if yours is found to be faulty. Since the issue is network-related, they are ultimately the ones who can provision your SIM correctly on their end.
