Take-Two Interactive has subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord over leaked Grand Theft Auto VI content that the publisher says infringes its copyrights, per a Kotaku report. The legal action follows several apparent video leaks of the game and targets user data and records tied to accounts involved in sharing the footage.
Both companies face a September 4th deadline to produce the requested information. The subpoenas demand user data and records of accounts involved in sharing the leaks, with Take-Two also flagging several "infringing messages" sent over Discord chat servers and demanding that content be taken down.
The leaked clips carry watermarks from a person or group going by "CyberLeek," showing what appears to be GTA VI protagonist Jason Duval, one of two protagonists, driving, flying an airplane, using a taser, and attacking someone with a wrench. Take-Two is also seeking Microsoft's internal investigative records tied to the "cyberleek" persona, asking for enough detail to identify the people or entities behind it.
The subpoenas provide further evidence that the GTA 6 leaks are real and that Take-Two is pushing online platforms to scrub the information. Neither Microsoft nor Discord immediately responded to requests for comment.
The leaks surface ahead of Rockstar's extended game preview, set to debut on Netflix on August 27th, with the full game scheduled for a November 19th launch.
