Motorola unveiled its first book-style foldable phone, the Razr Fold at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The device marks Motorola's entry into the premium foldable market dominated by Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
The Razr Fold features a 6.6-inch cover display that unfolds to an 8.1-inch 2K LTPO inner screen. Both displays are slightly larger than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, which measures 6.5 inches externally and 8 inches internally according to Tom's Guide. The inner panel offers variable refresh rates up to 120Hz, matching Samsung's display technology.
Motorola equipped the Razr Fold with a triple 50MP rear camera system. This includes a Sony LYTIA main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide/macro lens, and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto camera. For selfies, there's a 32MP external camera and a 20MP internal camera, doubling Samsung's internal camera resolution according to TechRadar.
The foldable supports Dolby Vision video recording and includes the Moto Pen Ultra stylus. This gives it a key advantage over Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, which removed S Pen support to achieve thinner dimensions. Motorola's stylus support requires carrying the pen separately rather than storing it in the device.
Two color options will be available: Pantone Blackened Blue with woven vegan leather and Pantone Lily White with silky vegan leather. Both finishes continue Motorola's collaboration with Pantone, a partnership established with previous Razr models.
AI features include Catch Me Up for notification summaries and Next Move for contextual recommendations. These on-device AI tools follow Motorola's established software approach from the Razr Ultra, which received positive reviews in 2025.
Motorola will release the Razr Fold in summer 2026, targeting the US market first. Pricing remains unconfirmed, but rumors suggest a $1,500 price point according to Android Central. This would undercut Samsung's $2,000 Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google's premium foldable pricing.
The company withheld key specifications including processor, RAM, battery capacity, and exact dimensions. Industry analysts speculate the device could feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset based on Motorola's flagship positioning.
Early hands-on impressions from CES 2026 describe the Razr Fold as slightly thicker than Samsung's offering but still pocketable. The display crease was reportedly minimal and only visible from certain angles during testing.
Motorola's entry comes as Apple reportedly develops its own foldable device. The competitive landscape now includes Samsung, Google, Motorola, and potentially Apple in the premium foldable segment. Motorola's established Razr brand recognition and aggressive pricing strategy could challenge Samsung's market dominance.
The Razr Fold represents Motorola's most significant foldable expansion since resurrecting the Razr brand in 2020. Previous models focused on clamshell designs, with the Razr Ultra receiving strong reviews in 2025 for its camera performance and software features.
Motorola also announced a special FIFA World Cup 26 edition of its clamshell Razr at CES 2026. This limited edition includes exclusive wallpapers, custom ringtones using the tournament's official theme, and FIFA watermarks on photographs.
Industry analysts note Motorola's timing allows it to learn from Samsung's and Google's foldable missteps. Samsung's first foldable faced durability issues, while Google reportedly scrapped initial foldable designs before launching the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
The Razr Fold's success will depend on final pricing, performance specifications, and market availability. Motorola's history of undercutting competitors on price could make it a compelling alternative to established foldable options.
Motorola plans to reveal complete specifications, pricing, and regional availability details in the coming months. The summer 2026 launch positions the Razr Fold as a back-to-school and early holiday season competitor in the premium smartphone market.
