Google has fully integrated its AI-powered research tool NotebookLM into the Gemini chatbot, creating a unified workspace for managing complex projects and research materials.

The integration began rolling out this week to Google AI Ultra, Pro, and Plus subscribers on the web platform. Mobile support and access for free users will follow in the coming weeks, according to Google's announcement.

Notebooks created in Gemini now sync automatically with NotebookLM, allowing users to access unique features from both platforms without switching between separate applications. Each notebook can hold up to 100 uploaded sources including PDFs and documents, which serve as contextual input for Gemini's responses.

This move transforms Gemini from a simple question-and-answer chatbot into a project management hub where past conversations can be organized into topic-based collections.

All chats now include an "Add to notebook" option in their overflow menus, enabling users to consolidate related discussions into persistent workspaces. The capability builds on last year's initial connection where notebooks could be added as sources within Gemini. Now the entire NotebookLM functionality lives directly inside the main interface, keeping responses tied to specific documents or research sets without requiring additional steps.

Google describes these notebooks as "personal knowledge bases shared across Google products," starting with Gemini integration. Sources added while using either application will appear in both platforms, creating a smooth workflow between research organization and conversational AI assistance.

For now, the feature remains unavailable to users under 18 years old or those with Workspace and Education accounts. The rollout will expand to more countries across Europe in the coming weeks, with mobile support and free user access also arriving during that timeframe.
