Google Home prepares a major Gemini AI upgrade that expands beyond text commands to include image and video analysis. The update, discovered in version 4.9.51.0 of the Android app, adds visual input capabilities to the Ask Home conversational interface.
Users will soon upload photos or videos directly through their camera or Gallery, then ask questions about the content. This enhancement builds on the October 2025 update that introduced Ask Home's natural language processing for smart home control and security camera monitoring.
The visual analysis feature arrives as Google prepares to launch its first dedicated Home Speaker since 2020. The $99.99 device, scheduled for 2026 release, includes custom processing hardware optimized for Gemini's AI workloads. It offers 360-degree audio with yarn covering and pairs with Google TV Streamer for home theater setups.
The speaker will launch in Spring 2026 in 19 countries including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia.
Google's Gemini for Home initiative represents the company's most significant smart home advancement in years.
