You’ve uninstalled your HP printer software, but the printer is still listed. That’s because the apps and the saved printer entry are separate parts of the installation. Use the steps for your device below to remove both.
Uninstall HP software on Windows 11
A printer left behind after an HP software uninstall has a separate saved entry in Windows. Disconnect the printer before removing its software, as HP recommends. Then open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
Find the HP printer software, HP app, or remaining HP Smart installation you want to remove. Select its More (…) > Uninstall command. Complete the uninstaller’s prompts.
Repeat for other unwanted HP printer applications listed separately. Keep your selection limited to the printer software you intend to remove. Restart your PC after removal finishes.
Remove the saved printer from Windows
If the HP printer is still in Windows 11’s printer list, remove its saved entry here. This works for installed USB, network, and shared printers; HP applications require the separate uninstall above.
Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. Select the HP printer. Click Remove.
Confirm with Yes. Repeat for any unwanted duplicate entries.
Fix a failed Windows uninstall
Restart your PC if the HP application will not uninstall. Retry its Uninstall command under Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
If removal fails and the application offers Advanced options, open that page. Select Repair. Retry Uninstall after the repair finishes.
If repair fails, select Reset. This option risks deleting the application’s data. Retry Uninstall after the reset.
For traditional HP desktop software, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features as an alternative removal route. Right-click the HP program. Select Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
Complete the prompts. If removal still fails, follow the troubleshooting recommendations Windows presents.
Clear HP applications from your Mac
This removes HP software from your Mac. Open Finder > Applications. Look inside the HP or Hewlett Packard folder for HP Uninstaller. Use this included uninstaller when it is present.
Open HP Uninstaller. Complete its removal prompts. For an installation without that uninstaller, visit HP’s printer software download page. HP Easy Start availability depends on your printer model and operating system.
Enter your printer’s serial number, product number, or product name. Select Submit. Download HP Easy Start if a compatible package is offered. Open HP Easy Start.
Choose Uninstall HP Software. HP describes this option as removing all HP software, so account for any other HP printers you still use. Complete the removal prompts. To remove a standalone HP app or remaining HP Smart app without an included uninstaller, quit that application.
Select the app in Finder > Applications. Choose File > Move to Trash. Authenticate if prompted. Choose Finder > Empty Trash.
Delete the Mac’s saved printer entry
The configured printer needs its own removal step. On macOS Tahoe 26, open Apple menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners. Control-click the HP printer.
Select Remove printer. Confirm with Remove Printer. If that route fails, try the alternative Remove Printer button on the printer’s details page in Printers & Scanners.
Delete HP apps from your phone or tablet
Use these steps for the installed HP app, an existing HP Smart copy, or the Android printing plugin. App removal is separate from removing a printer’s HP account association.
On iPhone or iPad, touch and hold the HP application. Tap Remove App. Choose Delete App.
Confirm with Delete. Parental controls and device management restrictions can block app deletion.
For the storage-settings route instead, open Settings > General > iPhone Storage or iPad Storage. Select the HP application. Choose Delete App to remove the application and its data. Offload App retains documents and data, so it leaves part of the installation behind.
On Android, open Google Play Store. Tap your profile icon. Open Manage apps & devices > Manage.
Select the installed HP app, HP Smart, or HP Print Service Plugin. Tap Uninstall. Google notes that some steps on its current app-deletion page work only on Android 13 and up, so check your Android version if these options do not appear.
Clean up a Chromebook’s saved printer
Remove the saved printer, then any unwanted HP printing app or extension.
- 1.Select the time, then open Settings > Device > Printers and scanners > Print.
- 2.Beside the HP printer, select More (…) > Remove. This removes the saved entry; network discovery still shows available printers.
- 3.For an installed HP application, open Launcher, right-click its icon, choose Uninstall or Remove from Chrome, then confirm with Uninstall.
- 4.For an HP extension with a toolbar button, right-click that button, select Remove from Chrome, and confirm removal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does uninstalling an HP printer cancel Instant Ink?
No. Sign in to your Instant Ink account. Verify the printer under Overview > Printer Details. Open HP Instant Ink > Update Plan > Plan Details > Cancel Instant Ink. Complete the cancellation prompts. Instant Ink supplies stop working after the applicable service period ends.
Can I remove one printer from the HP app without uninstalling it?
Yes. Select the printer in the HP app. Scroll to the bottom of its page. Select Remove from app in interfaces that offer this control. This removes the app entry separately from the operating system’s printer entry.
Does removing the printer also remove every driver?
No. Removing a saved printer entry and removing its driver are separate operations. Windows also supports printer-device removal through Device Manager, but this does not uninstall every HP application. A restart can trigger automatic driver reinstallation.
Should I factory reset the printer to uninstall it?
No. A factory reset resets the printer’s configuration. It does not uninstall computer software, remove its HP account association, or cancel Instant Ink enrollment.
