Your iPhone’s Sensitive Content Warning hides flagged images and videos until you choose to view them. You can stop those warnings entirely or turn them off for individual apps. Start with the privacy switch, then check Screen Time if warnings keep appearing.
Turn off Sensitive Content Warning
Open Settings.
Go to Privacy & Security > Sensitive Content Warning.
Turn off Sensitive Content Warning. This is the system-wide control for Apple’s feature on iPhones running iOS 17 or later.
If warnings continue, check Communication Safety in Screen Time using the steps below. Warnings supplied independently by social apps or websites require their own controls.
Keep protection on for selected apps
Only want to stop warnings in one app or service? Use the individual switches on the same settings page.
Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Sensitive Content Warning.
Leave the main Sensitive Content Warning switch on to retain protection elsewhere.
Under App & Service Access, turn off the switch for each service you want excluded. On iOS 26, the labels are AirDrop, Contacts, FaceTime, Messages, and Shared Albums. Earlier supported iOS versions also offer individual controls, but the available services and labels vary.
Check Screen Time if warnings stay active
Communication Safety is a separate Screen Time feature that can automatically enable Sensitive Content Warning.
- 1.Open Settings > Screen Time.
- 2.Tap Communication Safety.
- 3.Turn off Communication Safety.
- 4.Return to Settings > Privacy & Security > Sensitive Content Warning.
- 5.Turn off Sensitive Content Warning if its separate switch is still on.
Manage warnings on a child’s iPhone
On the parent’s or guardian’s iPhone, open Settings > Screen Time to manage a child through Family Sharing.
Select the child’s name farther down the page.
Open Communication Safety.
Turn off Communication Safety.
Enter the Screen Time passcode if requested.
On the child’s iPhone, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Sensitive Content Warning.
Turn off Sensitive Content Warning if it is still enabled.
Keep in mind that Communication Safety works without Content & Privacy Restrictions, so changing those restrictions is not a substitute.
Reveal one item without turning warnings off
Just want to view a single flagged image or video? You don’t need to disable future warnings.
On the Sensitive Content Warning alert, tap Show to reveal the content. The warning feature stays enabled for future items.
If a child’s account still blocks the content, check the parent or guardian’s Communication Safety controls described above. Child-account Communication Safety has separate interventions and permission requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change my child’s Communication Safety setting from a Mac or iPad?
Yes, as long as your child is signed in to their device with a Child Account and is part of your Family Sharing group. On an iPad or Apple Vision Pro, open Settings > Screen Time. Select the child’s name. Open Communication Safety. Turn off Communication Safety. On a Mac, open Apple menu > System Settings > Screen Time. Select the child’s name. Open Communication Safety. Turn off Communication Safety. Enter the Screen Time passcode if requested.
Why does an older tutorial mention Video Messages or Check for Sensitive Photos?
Older tutorials use different labels. Apple’s iOS 26 settings screen lists FaceTime for the service older tutorials call Video Messages. The current Screen Time toggle is Communication Safety, rather than Check for Sensitive Photos.
Do I need to download an app to turn this off?
No download or installation is required. Both features are managed through Apple’s built-in settings.
Are Communication Safety defaults the same for every child account?
No. Communication Safety defaults and age thresholds vary by country or region.
