Your Hisense TV freezes, loses sound, or drops its connection just as you settle in to watch something. Start with a restart, then work through the fix for your symptom before considering a factory reset. Hisense uses Google TV, Roku TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and VIDAA, so match the instructions to your operating system and model first.
Start with a restart that matches your TV
Find the model and serial number on the rear label.
Locate your model’s documentation on Hisense Support, matching both the operating system and region before choosing a reset or firmware procedure.
For a frozen Hisense Google TV, disconnect electricity for one minute.
Reconnect the TV.
Press Power.
On a Hisense Roku TV, open Settings > System > Power > System restart. Skip Power if that menu is absent.
With unresponsive Roku menus, disconnect electricity for at least 10 seconds before reconnecting it. Pressing Power to enter standby does not perform a system restart.
For Hisense Fire TV, use Settings > Device & Software > Restart.
If Fire TV’s menus will not respond, disconnect electricity for at least 30 seconds before reconnecting it.
For VIDAA or another menu layout, use your model’s restart instructions. If restarting does not help, move to the matching symptom below.
Restore picture or sound from an external source
A wrong input, inactive source, or loose HDMI connection is a starting point for troubleshooting No Signal on a Hisense Roku TV.
Confirm that your cable box, console, or other source is powered on.
Secure its HDMI cable at both ends.
From Home, select the HDMI input that matches the connected port.
Try a different HDMI cable if the source still fails to display.
Test another HDMI port if changing the cable does not help.
Use the cable or satellite box’s own remote to control that box.
For a Hisense Fire TV with picture but no sound, unmute the TV.
Raise the volume to test the output.
To use the built-in speakers, open Settings > Display & Sounds > Audio Output and set TV Speakers to On.
For external sound on Fire TVs with these controls, set TV Speakers to OFF in the same menu.
Set ARC MODE to Auto.
Set Digital Audio Format to Auto.
On a Hisense Roku TV offering a separate picture and sound reset, open Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset > Reset TV audio/picture settings. This resets picture and sound settings without a full factory reset.
Read the on-screen warning.
Press Play/Pause three times to perform that reset.
Check the Wi-Fi and streaming connection
On Google TV, check Wi-Fi and the selected network under Settings > Network & Internet. On Roku TV, run Settings > Network > Check connection. Review the Roku results under Settings > Network > About.
For Fire TV, open Settings > Network and press Play/Pause to launch network diagnostics. Alternatively, select Network Diagnostics from the Unable to Connect screen.
For a Roku TV connection failure, test a website on another device. If other devices also cannot access the internet, contact your internet provider.
If only your Roku TV remains disconnected, reset its network connection through Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Network connection reset > Reset connection. If Advanced system settings appears directly under Settings on your TV, open it from there and continue with the same steps. After the restart, reconnect through Settings > Network > Set up connection.
Repair an app that crashes or slows the TV
These steps address app crashes and background-app lag.
On Google TV, force-stop the affected app through Settings > Apps > the app > Force stop > OK.
Reopen the app to test it.
If it still fails, reset its local data through Settings > Apps > See all apps > the app > Clear data. This removes the app’s stored sign-in and settings.
Reopen the app.
Restore its sign-in and settings as prompted.
For broader Google TV lag, stop an unnecessary app under Settings > Apps > Recently opened apps using Force stop > OK.
Repeat for other unnecessary apps.
Let running app updates finish before judging performance, since updates temporarily slow the TV.
For a malfunctioning Roku app, highlight it on Home.
Press Star to open its options.
Select Check for updates if offered.
If a removable app continues failing, choose Remove channel from its Star menu.
Confirm the removal.
Restart the Roku TV using the restart procedure above.
Reinstall the app through the Roku Streaming Store.
On Fire TV, clear the affected app’s cache through Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > the app > Clear Cache.
Use Clear Data if the Fire TV app still needs its stored data reset.
On VIDAA U8.5, select the problematic app in the app store.
Choose Uninstall if the app supports removal.
Reinstall the VIDAA app from the same store.
Reconnect a remote that stops responding
Depleted remote batteries make a Hisense Roku TV appear frozen even when its physical controls still work.
Try the Roku TV’s physical controls to distinguish a remote failure from an unresponsive television.
Replace the remote’s batteries with a matching fresh pair, or charge a rechargeable remote.
For a compatible Fire TV remote, hold Home for about 10 seconds while standing within 3 metres of the TV.
Install fresh alkaline batteries if the Fire TV remote still fails to respond.
To use a phone remote with a compatible Google TV, connect your Android phone to the TV’s Wi-Fi network.
In the Google TV phone app, tap TVs nearby.
Select your TV.
Enter the code displayed on the TV.
Tap Pair.
For Roku TV, connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi as the TV.
Open the official Roku app.
Select the TV.
Tap Remote. Phone control depends on network access and mobile-control permission; after a factory reset, keep a physical remote available for setup.
For a supported VIDAA TV, open Settings > Support > Mobile App.
Scan the QR code to reach the matching companion app’s installation page.
Bring the TV software up to date
Check for updates when freezing, lag, or app problems continue after a restart. Use the update path for your operating system.
On Google TV, open Settings > System > About > System update.
Install any offered system update.
For Google TV app updates, search the TV for Google Play Store.
Open Google Play Store.
Select the profile icon.
Choose Manage apps & games > Updates > Update all.
On Roku TV, choose Settings > System > Software update > Check now.
For Fire TV, use Settings > Device & Software > About > Check for System Update. On versions with the alternative menu label, start with My Fire TV instead of Device & Software.
On VIDAA TVs with these menus, open System Settings > Support > System Upgrade > Check Firmware Upgrade. Follow your model’s manual if it uses System Update instead.
For a US Hisense firmware download, enter your TV’s serial number in Product Serial Number on Hisense’s Firmware Downloads page.
Select Search.
Follow the installation instructions supplied for that exact unit.
Select Contact Us if the firmware lookup fails. Do not substitute another model’s firmware.
Check unwanted shutdowns and retail settings
On the US Hisense U8QG, open Settings > System > Power & Energy.
Disable an unwanted Sleep Timer.
Disable unwanted shutdowns under Auto Sleep.
Disable an unwanted startup schedule under Power On Timer Type.
Disable an unwanted shutdown schedule under Power Off Timer Type.
To stop unwanted HDMI device control on that model, set Settings > Channels & Inputs > External Inputs > HDMI control to Off.
For retail demonstration behavior on the U8QG, turn off Store Mode under Settings > System > Advanced System.
On the VIDAA 40Q4SV with the U9 layout, inspect Settings > System > Timers for Sleep Timer, Power Off Timer, Auto Sleep, and Auto Standby with No Signal.
Match these controls to your exact model’s manual before treating an automatic shutdown as a hardware failure.
Reserve a factory reset for persistent problems
A factory reset clears the TV’s configuration after less disruptive troubleshooting fails.
On a US U8QG Google TV, open Settings > System > About > Reset > Factory reset. This erases personal settings and data.
Follow the U8QG’s PIN prompt to complete the reset.
For Roku TV, open Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset > Factory reset everything. Account links, apps, and personal settings must be configured again.
Follow the Roku confirmation prompts.
Before resetting Fire TV, safely eject external USB storage.
Open Settings > Device & Software > Reset to Factory Defaults. This erases the TV’s configuration and downloaded content.
Complete the Fire TV confirmation prompts.
On the VIDAA 40Q4SV with the U9 layout, open Settings > Support > Reset to Factory Default. Personal settings and data will be erased.
Follow the VIDAA PIN prompt.
Get model-specific help when the TV still fails
For persistent power, boot, or display failures, use troubleshooting matched to the TV’s exact hardware. If a Hisense Fire TV will not power on, check the supplied power cable.
Try another outlet for that Fire TV if it remains unresponsive.
For a Hisense Roku TV stuck in a boot loop, disconnect power for 60 seconds before reconnecting it.
Before using a recessed Reset button, check your model’s instructions. Physical reset and recovery procedures depend on the model and erase data.
On supported regional VIDAA U8.5 models, open Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis.
Run the test matching your symptom, such as Picture Test, Sound Test, or Input Connection Test.
If these checks do not resolve the problem, select Parts & Service Support on Hisense’s US contact page or call +1 (888) 935-8880. Supply the model, serial number, symptoms, and troubleshooting already attempted. Outside the US, contact Hisense support for your region.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does clearing a Hisense TV’s cache preserve my sign-ins?
Not every cache cleanup preserves user data. Hisense’s U8QG system Clear Cache and VIDAA U8.5 and U9 cache cleanup also remove user data. Fire TV separates Clear Cache from Clear Data, which resets the app’s stored data.
Can removing my Google TV account reset the whole television?
Yes. Removing the only account on Google TV automatically factory-resets the TV. Check whether another account remains before using account removal to troubleshoot a sign-in problem.
Why does my Hisense Roku TV suddenly read menus aloud?
On supported US models, menu narration means the screen reader is enabled. If the screen reader Shortcut is enabled, press Star four times quickly to turn it off. Otherwise, turn it off under Settings > Accessibility > Screen reader. Disable Shortcut there to prevent accidental activation. This setting does not control a program’s audio-description track.
Can I sign out of Netflix without resetting my Hisense TV?
Yes. From Netflix Home, press Back. With top navigation, select the profile icon, then Get Help. With left-side navigation, select Get Help at the bottom. Choose Sign out, then Yes. Sign in again.
