Getting your new Redmi Note 14 Pro set up with all your old stuff is pretty straightforward. Whether you're upgrading from another Android phone or making the switch from an iPhone, HyperOS has the tools built right in to handle the heavy lifting.

Start the Transfer During Initial Setup

The absolute best time to move your data is when you first turn on the phone. After selecting your language and connecting to Wi-Fi, you'll hit a screen that says "Copy data." Tap on it to begin. You'll see a few options, including copying directly from another phone or restoring from a cloud backup.

If you have your old phone handy, choose "Copy from another phone." Your Redmi Note 14 Pro will then give you a choice: use a cable for the fastest transfer or connect wirelessly over a local network. I'd go with the cable if you have one available.

Use a USB Cable for a Fast, Complete Move

For the most reliable and quickest transfer, connect the two phones with a USB cable. You'll likely need a USB-C to whatever-your-old-phone-uses adapter. Once they're linked, the phones will communicate and your new Redmi will show you a list of everything it can move.

This includes your contacts, messages, call logs, photos, videos, audio files, and even most of your app data. It's a one-stop shop and doesn't rely on your internet speed, which is great for moving large photo libraries.

Restore from a Google One Backup

Don't have your old device anymore? No problem, as long as you backed it up to Google. During that same setup process, instead of choosing to copy from a phone, select "Restore from cloud backup." Sign into your Google account and you'll see a list of available backups from your previous devices.

Pick the most recent one. Your Redmi Note 14 Pro will then download and install your apps and restore your settings and data. Just make sure your old phone was backing up. You can check by going to Settings > Google > Backup on your old device.

Switching from an iPhone

Moving from iOS is handled right in the setup wizard. When you get to the data transfer screen, select "iPhone" as your source device. You'll be prompted to download the "Move to iOS" app on your iPhone, but ignore that, you actually need to use Xiaomi's own method.

The phones will create a direct Wi-Fi connection. On your iPhone, you'll need to go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings to get a transfer code. Enter that code on your Redmi, and you can select what to move: contacts, message history, photos, videos, and mail accounts. Remember, iOS apps won't transfer; you'll need to download their Android versions from the Play Store.

Let Your Google Account Handle the Basics

A ton of your important information syncs automatically the moment you add your Google account. After setup, go to Settings > Passwords & accounts > Google and tap on your account. Here you can see exactly what's syncing: Contacts, Calendar, Chrome tabs and bookmarks, and more.

This is a good safety net. Even if something gets missed in the main transfer, signing into Google often pulls in these core details automatically.

Move Your WhatsApp Chats

To move your WhatsApp history from an old Android phone, you need to use WhatsApp's own transfer tool. On your old phone, open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Chats > Chat transfer. Then, on your new Redmi Note 14 Pro, install WhatsApp, verify your number, and you'll be prompted to scan a QR code displayed on the old phone to import your chats.

For other apps like Telegram or Signal, check their settings for chat backup or transfer options. Most game progress is saved if you're logged into Google Play Games.

Finishing Up on Your New Phone

Once the transfer is complete, take some time to look around. Open your photo gallery, check your messages app, and ensure your key apps are present and logged in. The Dimensity 7300 Ultra processor handles this data restoration smoothly, though you might notice the camera app taking a moment to process your old photos in the gallery initially.

When you're confident everything is on your new Redmi Note 14 Pro, it's time to wipe your old phone. Go to its settings and perform a factory reset before you sell, trade, or recycle it. That protects your personal information.
