Getting your new OPPO Find X8 Pro set up with all your old stuff is the first thing you want to do. ColorOS 15 has some great built-in tools to make this process smooth, whether you're upgrading from another Android phone or making the switch from an iPhone. I'd start with the method built right into the setup wizard.
Use the Clone Phone App During Setup
The absolute best time to move everything is when you first turn on your Find X8 Pro. After selecting your language, you'll hit a screen that asks if you want to copy data. Tap on Clone Phone. This is OPPO's own transfer tool, and it's incredibly thorough.
On your old phone, you'll need to download the Clone Phone app from the Google Play Store if it's not already installed. Open the app on both devices, and use the old phone to scan the QR code shown on your new Find X8 Pro's screen. This creates a direct Wi-Fi connection between the two phones.
You can then select exactly what to transfer: system settings, home screen layout, all your apps and their data, call logs, messages, contacts, and media files like photos and videos. It's a one-stop shop and I've found it to be very reliable for moving from another Android device.
Restore from a Google One Backup
If your old phone is already gone or you just prefer a cloud restore, Google's backup is your friend. During the setup of your Find X8 Pro, after connecting to Wi-Fi, you'll be prompted to sign into your Google account. Once signed in, you'll see a list of available backups from your previous Android devices.
Choose the most recent backup. Your phone will then download and reinstall all the apps you had, and restore things like Wi-Fi passwords, call history, and device settings. It's important to note that not all app data is backed up by Google, so for things like game progress, you should check if the app uses Google Play Games cloud save.
To make sure your old phone was backing up properly, you could have checked Settings > Google > Backup. The backup should have been turned on and shown a recent time.
Switching from an iPhone to Your Find X8 Pro
Moving from iOS requires a different approach. During the initial setup on your OPPO, when you get to the data transfer screen, look for an option labeled Import from iPhone or something similar. You'll need your iPhone nearby.
The OPPO transfer tool will guide you to connect both phones to the same Wi-Fi network. On your iPhone, you might be prompted to download a companion app or trust the connection. Once linked, you can select the data types to move: contacts, calendar events, photos, and videos. Your text messages (iMessages) will not transfer.
For your apps, you'll need to download the Android versions fresh from the Google Play Store. Any subscriptions or in-app purchases won't carry over automatically, so you'll have to restore those within each app using the same account you used on iOS.
Manual Transfer with a USB Cable and PC
For a large library of photos, videos, or documents, sometimes the old-fashioned way is fastest. Connect your old phone to your computer via USB and copy the files you need to a folder on your desktop. Then, connect your new OPPO Find X8 Pro and drag those files over.
The Find X8 Pro uses a standard USB-C port for this. This method gives you complete control and is a good way to do a final, organized copy of your media after using one of the wireless methods for everything else.
Don't Forget WhatsApp and Other Messaging Apps
WhatsApp has its own transfer process. On your old Android phone, open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Chats > Chat transfer. Tap Start, then use your old phone to scan the QR code displayed within WhatsApp on your new Find X8 Pro. Your chat history will move over locally.
If you're coming from an iPhone, you'll need to use WhatsApp's "Move to Android" feature, which requires a cable connection during the initial phone setup process. For other apps like Telegram or Signal, your chats are tied to your account and will sync when you log in on the new device.
Final Steps After Everything is Moved
Take some time to scroll through your app drawer and home screens to make sure everything transferred. Log into any apps that require fresh authentication, like banking or social media apps. This is also a great time to explore the camera system, especially the dual periscope lenses which are fantastic for zoom shots.
Once you're confident all your data is safely on your new OPPO Find X8 Pro, you should perform a factory reset on your old phone before you sell, trade, or recycle it. This protects your personal information. You can find this option in the Settings menu under System or Additional Settings.
