You signed in to Google on a browser, phone, Chrome profile, Chromebook, or TV, and now the account needs to come off that device. The right fix depends on where the account is still active, because Gmail, Chrome, YouTube, Android, and Google TV each use a different sign-out path. Start with the everyday browser fix, then move to remote sign-out, mobile apps, Chrome, and device-specific removal.
1. Sign out from Google in a browser
- 1.Open a Google service, such as Google Search or Gmail.
- 2.Select your Profile, profile image, initial, or email address at the top right.

- 4.In Gmail with multiple accounts, select Sign out of all accounts.
On a shared browser, use a private window next time and close every private window when you finish.
2. Leave no Google session on a shared device
Open a private or incognito browser window before signing in. Go to the Google service you need and sign in. When you finish, close all private or incognito windows. If you already used a regular browser window on that shared device, clear the browser's cache and cookies.
3. Sign out from a device you no longer have
This fixes a Google account left open on another computer, phone, tablet, browser, app, or service shown in device activity. Go to your Google Account, then open Security & sign-in. 5. Remove a Google account from Android settings
Open the Android Settings app and select Passwords & accounts. Under Accounts, tap the Google account, then select Remove account. To confirm, select Remove account, then Delete. If this is the only Google Account on the device, enter the device's pattern, PIN, or password.
On some Android phones, the same area is named Accounts, Users & accounts, or a similar account menu.
6. Stop Chrome from keeping the account signed in
This fixes Chrome being signed in or syncing while your Google account remains separate from other Google apps and services. On desktop Chrome, select Profile at the top right, then select Sign out of Chrome. If Chrome is already signed out of a Google web service or the account is in an error state, select Remove Account from Chrome.
To stop Chrome from signing in when you use Gmail or another Google service, select Profile. Open Google Services Settings. Under Other Google services, choose Don't sign in or Ask every time.
7. Sign out of Chrome on your phone
On Android, open Chrome and use More > Settings > account name > Sign out. On iPhone or iPad, open Chrome and use More > Settings > account name > Sign Out. After signing out, use chrome.google.com/sync > Delete data to delete saved Chrome sync information from your Google Account.
8. Handle YouTube, TVs, and Chromebooks
In YouTube on Android, select your profile picture, then Accounts, Manage accounts, the account, and Remove account. In YouTube on iPhone or iPad, select your profile picture, then Accounts and Use YouTube signed out. In YouTube on a TV or game console, open the left menu, go to the profile picture or accounts page, select the account, and choose Sign out.
To remove the account from YouTube on a TV or game console, open the left menu, go to the account icon or accounts page, select the account, and choose Remove Account. On Google TV, use Settings > Accounts & Sign In > profile > Remove > Remove account. On a Chromebook, select the time at the bottom right and choose Sign out; if it is not shown, select Power, then Sign out.
On a Chromebook keyboard, press Shift + Ctrl + q twice. If all Google TV profiles are removed, Google warns that the device is factory reset.
9. Use the current Google sign-out names
Do not look for an old direct Gmail mobile Sign out button; the current Gmail app path is Profile > Manage accounts on this device > Remove account on Android or Profile > Manage accounts on this device > Remove from this device on iPhone and iPad. Do not use older device-activity instructions that say Remove or a three-dot remove menu; the current path is Security & sign-in > Your devices > Manage all devices > device or session > Sign out.
For a managed Google Workspace or Cloud Identity account, an administrator with the appropriate User management privilege can use Admin console > Directory > Users > user > Security > Sign-in cookies > Reset to force browser and mobile sessions to reauthenticate. Without that privilege, not all of those controls appear.
