Ready to switch carriers, but your Straight Talk phone is still locked? Straight Talk’s website and unlocking department handle carrier-unlock requests, with eligibility based on your activation date and paid service history. Start with your IMEI, check the requirements, then follow the completion steps for your phone.
Get your phone’s IMEI ready
Enter *#06# on your phone’s keypad to display its IMEI. This identifies your device; it does not unlock it.
On an iPhone, find it under Settings > General > About. On Android, use Settings > About Device or About Phone > Status; models with another submenu show IMEI information.
On supported Straight Talk feature phones, open Menu > Prepaid > Serial Number.
The request process covers eligible Straight Talk-sold iPhones, Android phones, and supported feature phones. Straight Talk cannot unlock another carrier’s phone that you brought to its service.
Check your paid service time
Too few qualifying paid service days will keep your phone from qualifying for an unlock.
Activations on or after January 20, 2026 require an unlock request after 365 cumulative paid-and-active days. Inactive periods pause that count, except for qualifying provider-caused outages. Earlier AT&T- or T-Mobile-network activations qualify after 365 paid-and-active days. Straight Talk may unlock such a phone remotely once it qualifies; if it is still locked, submit an unlock request through the portal below.
Keep qualifying service active until you meet the requirement. The phone must work, be powered on, and have qualifying airtime purchased and redeemed on that specific device. It must have no lost or stolen report or fraud indicators.
The older 60-day automatic-unlock policy is restricted to qualifying Verizon-network activations on or before January 19, 2026. It does not apply to new activations. Check your individual phone through the portal below.
Submit the online unlock request
This starts the official carrier-unlock request for an eligible phone.
Open Straight Talk’s device-unlock portal.
Enter your IMEI under Check Unlock Status.
Select Check Status.
If your eligible result offers a request form, fill in First name, Last name, Email, and Contact phone number, using a contact number different from the phone being unlocked.
Select Submit.
Save the ticket number on Order Summary.
Follow the instructions sent to your email.
If the result directs you to Customer Care instead, request your unlock by telephone using the number below.
Call Straight Talk when you need help
Request an eligibility check and carrier unlock by calling 1-888-442-5102 with your IMEI ready. If the portal shows an error or an eligibility result you disagree with, call this number for help.
For general Customer Care, call 1-877-430-2355, preferably from another device, to request unlock assistance or help reaching the unlocking department.
For web assistance, select Chat with Support on Straight Talk’s support site to ask for help with your unlock request.
Provide your Straight Talk phone number and device serial number when requested. Chat is an assistance channel, with no guarantee that it will complete every unlock.
Complete the unlock for your device
For an approved remote unlock, turn on or restart your phone.
Connect it to Wi-Fi.
Allow 24–48 hours for the unlock to take effect, following the status shown for your device.
For a code-based phone, dial #TFUNLOCK# (#83865625#) only after Straight Talk supplies your device’s unlock code.
Enter the supplied UNLOCK Code in TF Unlock Menu. Successful processing displays Device Unlocked, and the phone reboots.
Follow any additional instructions in your unlock email.
The TF dialer code requires a carrier-issued unlock code; dialing it alone does not unlock your phone.
Confirm an iPhone unlock before switching service
On an iPhone running iOS 14 or later, open Settings > General > About. Beside Carrier Lock, No SIM restrictions means the phone is unlocked. This field displays the status and has no unlock switch.
After Straight Talk confirms the unlock, remove the existing SIM if your iPhone has a physical SIM tray.
Insert the new carrier’s SIM. The iPhone activates with it.
Unlocking does not guarantee compatibility with your destination network. If the iPhone still shows a carrier lock after approval and the 24–48-hour completion window, contact Straight Talk.
Finish an approved iPhone unlock without another SIM
Apple’s backup, erase, and restore procedure completes an approved iPhone unlock when another SIM is unavailable.
Obtain confirmation from Straight Talk that your iPhone has been unlocked before starting. Erasing the phone cannot replace carrier approval.
Back up your iPhone before proceeding. The erase procedure deletes local data.
Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
Select Continue.
Choose whether to retain your eSIM. Erasing an eSIM requires contacting its carrier to reactivate that plan.
Complete the required authentication to finish erasing the phone.
Restore your backup afterward.
Request early unlocking for military relocation
Military customers receiving relocation orders outside Verizon Value coverage qualify to request unlocking during the normal lock period.
- 1.Activate your device before requesting military unlocking.
- 2.Request the military exception through the unlocking department at 1-888-442-5102.
- 3.Send your deployment documents to [email protected] as directed by Straight Talk’s military unlocking FAQ.
Escalate an unresolved eligibility dispute
Ask Straight Talk’s unlocking department to review the disputed decision, explaining why your phone qualifies and describing your previous carrier contacts.
For the FCC complaint route, select Start your complaint with the FCC on the FCC’s phone-complaint guidance page.
Choose Equipment, the category that includes device unlocking.
Describe your eligibility dispute and previous contacts with Straight Talk.
If Straight Talk’s review fails to resolve the dispute, submit the FCC complaint for further review. An FCC complaint does not directly unlock the phone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I activate another carrier’s eSIM after my iPhone is unlocked?
Follow the new carrier’s activation instructions on an unlocked, eSIM-capable iPhone. Support generally starts with iPhone XS/XR and later, subject to regional hardware and carrier support. For a carrier-supplied QR code, open Camera. Scan the code. Tap Cellular Plan Detected. Select Continue. Tap Add Cellular Plan. Enter the carrier’s confirmation code if requested. These steps activate service after unlocking; they do not request a Straight Talk unlock.
Do I need to download software to unlock my Straight Talk phone?
No. Straight Talk’s official unlock request methods require no software download.
Does a carrier unlock remove my screen lock or SIM PIN?
No. Carrier unlocking is separate from screen unlocking, SIM-PIN or PUK recovery, and Line Lock controls.
Can I unlock my Straight Talk phone through OEM unlocking or the My Account app?
Request the carrier unlock from Straight Talk directly, through its device-unlock portal or by calling its unlocking department at 1-888-442-5102.
