A NETGEAR modem login gets confusing fast because standalone cable modems, modem routers, routers, and app-managed systems use different sign-in paths. Your MyNETGEAR account signs in to NETGEAR services, while the local settings page uses modem or router admin credentials. Match the device in front of you to the steps below and you will land on the right page.

Log in to a standalone NETGEAR cable modem

Use this first when a separate NETGEAR cable modem connects to your router or computer.

  1. 1.Connect a computer to the cable modem with Ethernet, or connect to a WiFi router attached to the modem by Ethernet.
  2. 2.Open a web browser and select the address bar.
  3. 3.Enter http://192.168.100.1 and press Enter.
  4. 4.Enter admin for the user name and password for the default password.
  5. 5.Confirm that the BASIC Home page displays.

Choose the right password for your model

Most NETGEAR cable modems use admin for the user name and password for the default password. That includes listed models such as CM1000, CM1100, CM1200, CM500, CM600, CM700, CM2500, and CM3000.

The CM2000 is the exception. Use admin for the user name and the unique password printed on the product label.

Your MyNETGEAR account is separate from the local admin login. Use the modem admin credentials at http://192.168.100.1, and use your NETGEAR account for NETGEAR services or app sign-in.

Open a NETGEAR cable modem router

A NETGEAR cable modem router combines the modem and router in one box, so its login address follows the current mode.

With router mode enabled, connect to the router's network and enter www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.0.1. Use admin as the user name and the password created the first time you logged in; the BASIC Home page displays after login.

If those addresses fail, enter 192.168.100.1; that is the modem-only address after router mode is disabled.

Set up CAX30, CAX30S, or CAX80 first

This fixes first-time access before one of these WiFi 6 cable modem routers is activated. Connect the coaxial cable to the modem router, then connect the power adapter. Wait until the Online LED stays solid white for at least one minute.

Connect your computer or mobile device with the SSID and password on the modem router label, or connect by Ethernet. Open a browser and enter routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1. When Activate Internet Service appears, select your ISP. Follow the ISP activation prompts online or by phone.

After Internet Status shows ONLINE, click NEXT. Change the admin credentials, then set up the security questions. Review the WiFi network name and WiFi password.

Use the router login page

Use this when a NETGEAR router sits behind the modem, or when a modem router opens the router interface.

  1. 1.Connect your computer or mobile device to the NETGEAR router's network.
  2. 2.Open a browser and enter routerlogin.net or http://192.168.1.1.
  3. 3.Enter admin for the user name and the password created during setup.
  4. 4.If the page does not load, enter http://www.routerlogin.com, http://192.168.0.1, or http://10.0.0.1.
  5. 5.Confirm that the BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays.

Manage supported products in the Nighthawk or Orbi app

This fixes app access for supported NETGEAR cable products. For Nighthawk-supported products, get the app from nighthawk-app.com. Connect your phone to your NETGEAR router's WiFi network, then open the Nighthawk app.

Sign in with your NETGEAR account. When the app asks for router admin access, enter the router admin password. Tap LOGIN.

For Orbi Cable systems, get the app from orbi-app.com. Open the Orbi app. Sign in with or create a NETGEAR account.

When the app asks for admin credentials, enter the router admin login. If the credentials were never changed, use admin and password.

Get past the browser security warning

When a browser warning appears before the login window, it is tied to secure local HTTPS access with a self-signed certificate on newer NETGEAR and Orbi routers. It appears on local pages such as www.routerlogin.net or www.orbilogin.net.

In Chrome, click Advanced and Proceed to www.routerlogin.net (unsafe) or Proceed to www.orbilogin.net (unsafe). In Safari, click Show Details, Visit this website, and Visit Website.

In Microsoft Edge, click Details and Go on to the webpage. In Firefox, click Advanced, click View Certificate, and follow the certificate steps to save the exception.

Recover or reset the admin password

The most common cause is the admin password created during setup replacing the default password. For Nighthawk and Orbi routers with password recovery configured, open routerlogin.net, orbilogin.local, or orbilogin.com from a device connected to the router's WiFi network. Enter incorrect credentials three times.

On Router Password Reset, enter the router serial number and click CONTINUE. Answer the two security questions and click CONTINUE. Choose a new admin password and security questions, then click NEXT. Use the new password when the login window displays.

For a standalone NETGEAR cable modem with a lost password, power on the modem. Hold the Reset button with a straightened paper clip for about seven seconds, until all LEDs blink. Release the Reset button. After the reboot, log in at 192.168.100.1 with admin and password, except for models with a unique label password such as the CM2000.

For a NETGEAR router or gateway when password recovery fails, hold the Reset button on the back or side for 15 seconds. A router or gateway reset removes personalized settings, including the WiFi network name, WiFi password, and security settings. Complete setup again, create a new admin password, and log in with the matching web address or app path.

Limit remote access and skip older login advice

Remote access applies only after Remote Management has been enabled on a supported NETGEAR router or gateway, or after Anywhere Access is enabled for a supported Nighthawk or Orbi product. Basic standalone cable modem login stays local at the modem page.

Use web-based remote management only when you need browser access from outside the home network, because it opens an external port. NETGEAR is removing Remote Management from most routers through firmware updates and points users to Anywhere Access in the Nighthawk or Orbi app, which runs over an authenticated NETGEAR cloud connection and opens no port.

To enable it, sign in locally at www.routerlogin.net. Open ADVANCED then Remote Management, ADVANCED then Advanced Setup then Web Services Management, or Settings then Advanced Setup then Remote Management, depending on your firmware.

Those paths work only if your model and installed firmware still expose Remote Management. If the setting is missing, use Anywhere Access in the Nighthawk or Orbi app instead.

Select Turn Remote Management On. Under Allow Remote Access By, choose Only This Computer, IP Address Range, or Everyone. Set the port number, using 8443 for the default, and click Apply.

For app-based remote access, connect your phone to the local WiFi network. Open the Nighthawk or Orbi app, then tap the Menu icon. Open SETTINGS then Anywhere Access.

Turn on Enable Anywhere Access. Tap the back button.

Skip NETGEAR genie and Smart Wizard for current supported products. NETGEAR genie is legacy software without feature updates, and Smart Wizard products were discontinued. Use the Nighthawk app, Orbi app, current router web interface, or 192.168.100.1 modem page instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which browser address should I use for Orbi Cable?

For newer Orbi routers, use orbilogin.local; if that fails, use 10.168.168.1. For older Orbi routers, use orbilogin.com; if that fails, use 192.168.1.1.

Why does the Nighthawk or Orbi app only connect with Anywhere Access on iPhone?

On iOS 15 or newer, turn off Private Relay under Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Private Relay. Then open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap your NETGEAR network, turn off Limit IP Address Tracking, and retry local app management.

Can I use a voice or AI assistant for NETGEAR modem login?

No current official NETGEAR method logs in to the local modem or router admin interface through a voice or AI assistant. Use the local web address or the supported NETGEAR app.

Do I need the Nighthawk app for a basic standalone cable modem?

No. A standalone NETGEAR cable modem uses the local 192.168.100.1 page. The Nighthawk and Orbi apps apply to supported router, gateway, and Orbi Cable products.
