Your Steam Deck touch screen stopped responding, and the cause can be SteamOS, a dirty display, a game launcher, Windows drivers, or damaged display hardware. Start with the fast SteamOS fixes first, then use Valve recovery or repair support only when the screen still ignores touch.
1. Restart the Deck
Use a normal restart when SteamOS still responds.
Press the Steam button.
Open Power.
Select Restart.
After SteamOS loads, test the touch screen again.
If SteamOS is powered on but unresponsive, force the restart from the power button. On Steam Deck LCD, hold the power button for 4 seconds. On Steam Deck OLED, hold it for 7 seconds. If the Deck still does not respond, hold the power button for 10 seconds on LCD or 16 seconds on OLED.
2. Install SteamOS updates

Test touch input again.
Remove any installed screen protector.
Retest on the bare display.
If touch works after the protector comes off, leave it off or replace it with one that does not interfere with touch input.
4. Disable Desktop Mode apps
Close or disable third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode.
Restart with Steam > Power > Restart.
Test touch input again in SteamOS.
Focus here when the problem started after installing Desktop Mode apps, overlays, utilities, or non-Steam apps. If touch returns, leave the last changed Desktop Mode app disabled while you test the Deck normally.
5. Run Valve input tests

7. Fix one game or launcher
When touch works in SteamOS but fails inside one game, troubleshoot that game instead of the whole Deck.
Open the game's Steam Store page.
Check Steam Deck Compatibility.
For a Playable game, follow the listed manual configuration notes, including launcher navigation that uses a mouse or touchscreen.
Return to Library.
Highlight the game and press the Menu button.
Open Properties > Compatibility.
Select Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
Choose the latest Proton version and retest.
