Sengled lights can stop responding in Alexa for a bigger reason than a bad connection. The old Sengled Home Alexa skill is gone, so the fix now depends on the exact bulb type you own.
Start by identifying the protocol, then use the working path for Zigbee, Bluetooth Mesh, Matter, or SmartThings.
Find your Sengled bulb type
Look at the bulb, box, or app listing for the protocol label.
Match it to Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth or BLE Mesh, or Matter.
Treat Wi-Fi-only bulbs that depended on the old Sengled Home Alexa skill as the problem case. Amazon removed that skill after August 1, 2025, and there is no current vendor-supported direct Alexa reconnection path for those bulbs.
Use local Alexa setup for Zigbee, Bluetooth Mesh, or Matter bulbs, and use SmartThings when a Wi-Fi bulb still imports there.
The quickest route is to stop troubleshooting Alexa until you know the protocol printed for that light.
Update the apps first
Start here so discovery, device removal, and SmartThings bridging use the current app paths.
- 1.Install or update Amazon Alexa from the official Alexa app page, the App Store, Google Play, or the Amazon Appstore.
- 2.Open Amazon Alexa and sign in with your Amazon account.
- 3.If you plan to use SmartThings, install or update SmartThings from Google Play, the Apple App Store, or Samsung's SmartThings page, then sign in with your Samsung account.
- 4.Install or update the appropriate Sengled app for Sengled-side control or account linking, then confirm the lights work there before bridging or local setup.
- 5.Do not expect the Sengled app by itself to restore the removed Alexa skill.
Reconnect a Zigbee bulb locally
Use this method when the label says Zigbee and you have a compatible Echo or eero with a built-in Zigbee hub. Supported options include Echo (4th Gen), Echo Dot Max (2025 release), Echo Hub, Echo Plus (2nd Gen), Echo Show 21, Echo Show 15 (2nd Gen), Echo Show 11 (2025 release), Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen), Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen or 2025 release), Echo Studio, and compatible eero models.
Turn the Sengled bulb off.
Turn it on and off ten times, starting from off, until it blinks.
Say Alexa, discover my devices and wait for discovery to finish.
To use the app instead, open Alexa, go to Devices, tap +, choose Add Device, select Light, choose Sengled, then follow the prompts.
Remove stale Alexa devices
Open Alexa and tap Devices.
Select the unresponsive Sengled light.
Tap Settings.
Tap the Trash icon to remove it.
Repeat the cleanup for duplicate or ghost Sengled entries.
Run discovery again through the connection method that matches your bulb.
If the same light name appears twice, remove every duplicate before you test the light again.
Pair Bluetooth Mesh bulbs
The most common cause is pairing readiness, because the bulb must be in pairing or reset mode and within range of the Echo.
This applies to Sengled Bluetooth Mesh bulbs in en-US Alexa setups. Supported Echo devices include Echo Plus all models, Echo Show all models, Echo except 1st Generation, and Echo Dot except 1st Generation.
Put the bulb in pairing or reset mode using its manual.
Keep the bulb close to the Echo during setup.
Say Alexa, discover my devices and wait for discovery to finish.
When voice discovery does not start, open Alexa, tap Devices, tap +, choose Add Device, select Light, choose Sengled, then follow the Bluetooth or BLE Mesh path when Alexa shows it.
Add a Matter Sengled light
Matter bulbs use Alexa's Matter setup path, not the old Sengled skill.
- 1.Turn on Bluetooth on your phone before setup.
- 2.Open Alexa, go to Devices, tap +, and choose Add Device.
- 3.Select the Matter shortcut, tap Yes, then scan the Matter QR code or enter the setup code.
- 4.Follow the prompts while using a Matter-supported Echo or eero as the controller.
- 5.Use this same Alexa Matter path for Sengled Matter lights over Wi-Fi or Thread on compatible Echo or eero devices.
Use SmartThings for Wi-Fi bulbs
This workaround is for Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs that still work in Sengled or SmartThings but no longer answer through Alexa. It also applies to Sengled devices already paired to a SmartThings or Aeotec hub.
Open SmartThings, go to Devices, tap +, choose Add device, open Partner devices, select Sengled, then sign in to link your Sengled account.
Open Alexa and use the Message Alexa field to type Smart Home.
Open Smart Home Skills, search for SmartThings, tap Enable, and finish the sign-in prompts.
Tap Discover devices.
You can also go to Devices, tap +, choose Add Device, select SmartThings, and discover devices from there.
When SmartThings does not offer Sengled account linking, use Zigbee, Bluetooth Mesh, or Matter for compatible bulbs. A Wi-Fi-only bulb that depended only on the removed Sengled skill has no current direct Alexa reconnection path.
Reset the bulb before discovery
This fixes a bulb that Alexa cannot find during pairing.
Switch the Sengled bulb off at the wall or lamp.
Turn it on and off ten times quickly for a Zigbee Smart LED bulb, ending in the on position, or five times quickly for a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth Mesh bulb, counting each off-and-on as one time.
Watch for the bulb to blink, which shows it has reset and is ready to pair.
Add it immediately through the matching Alexa, SmartThings, or Sengled path.
Use the model manual when the bulb does not blink, because the exact reset count varies by model.
Rediscover managed Alexa rooms
In managed properties, the most common cause is a room smart device entry that needs discovery again or a stale device that needs to be forgotten.
Use Alexa Smart Properties only for rooms tied to a property deployment, not for a normal home Alexa account.
Open the management console, choose Properties, select the property, open Rooms, select the room, go to Room settings, open Skills and Enabled Skills, then use Discover Devices.
To remove stale room devices, open Echo Devices, use the Smart Home Devices tab, select the smart devices, and choose Forget.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my Sengled Wi-Fi bulbs stop working with Alexa?
Affected Sengled Wi-Fi cloud bulbs relied on the old Sengled Alexa skill, and Amazon removed that skill after August 1, 2025. Wi-Fi-only bulbs that depended on it do not have a current vendor-supported direct Alexa reconnection path.
Can Alexa still control Sengled Zigbee bulbs?
Yes. Sengled Zigbee bulbs can connect locally through a compatible Echo or eero with a built-in Zigbee hub. Reset the bulb first, then run Alexa device discovery.
Does reinstalling Sengled Home fix Alexa control?
No. The Sengled app can help with Sengled-side control or account linking, but it does not restore the removed Sengled Alexa skill by itself.
Why does Alexa show the same Sengled light twice?
Alexa may still have stale or ghost device entries. Remove the unresponsive duplicates from the Alexa app, then run discovery again through Zigbee, Bluetooth Mesh, Matter, or SmartThings.
