Your Govee lights turn on, but Wi-Fi setup fails or control stops as soon as you turn off Bluetooth. Start with the network band and model number, then work through pairing, signal, and app permissions. Save the reset for later, because strips, bulbs, and lamps use different procedures.
Start with the 2.4 GHz network
A 5 GHz network is the first connection mismatch to rule out when a Govee light requires 2.4 GHz.
Check your light’s Hxxxx model number, printed on the product or controller, against Govee’s connectivity specifications. Bluetooth-only models include H613A through H613F, H6125 through H6127, H617A, H617C, H7015, and H7016. An app setting or reset cannot add Wi-Fi to them.
Connect your setup phone to the router’s 2.4 GHz network.
If both router bands share a name, use your router’s instructions to give the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands different names. Govee recommends this for Wi-Fi strips; router menu labels vary.
Select the 2.4 GHz network during setup.
On eero, temporarily enable 2.4 GHz pairing through Settings > Troubleshooting > My device won’t connect > My device is 2.4 GHz only > Pause 5 GHz and 6 GHz.
Complete pairing within ten minutes. The other bands return automatically.
Check the password when setup rejects it
Use this check when Govee Home finds the light but cannot finish connecting it to your network. An accidental space at the end of the Wi-Fi password is one error Govee specifically flags.
Re-enter the selected 2.4 GHz network’s password without a trailing space. This is your Wi-Fi password, not your Govee account password.
Check whether the light left pairing mode before setup finished.
If it did, restore pairing mode using your model’s instructions. There is no single pairing-button sequence for every Govee light.
Retry setup in Govee Home.
Bring the controller closer and restart the connection
Temporarily move the light or its Wi-Fi controller closer to the router. With a strip, the controller’s location matters even when the LEDs extend much farther away.
Retry setup from that position.
For Permanent Outdoor Lights, position the router within approximately 30 feet of the control box where practical, without thick walls or metal siding between them. Govee gives this as installation guidance, not a guaranteed operating range. A Wi-Fi range extender is another option for weak outdoor coverage.
Reboot the router before your next pairing attempt.
For LED strips covered by Govee’s troubleshooting FAQ, remove the strip from Govee Home, then disconnect power for ten minutes.
Reconnect the strip’s power.
Retry setup in Govee Home.
If setup still fails, repeat the pairing sequence below with both phone radios enabled.
Add the light again in Govee Home
Use the exact model number to select the correct device.
- 1.Power on the light and keep your phone near the light or controller.
- 2.Enable your phone’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, then connect the phone to your 2.4 GHz network.
- 3.Open Govee Home and tap +.
- 4.Search for the Hxxxx model number and select its device icon.
- 5.Complete the pairing prompts, including Wi-Fi setup with the correct network name and password.
Give Govee Home the permissions it needs
Restoring permissions fixes discovery or local access blocked by denied permissions.
On iPhone, enable Govee Home under Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth.
If Govee Home requests location access, enable Location Services under Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
Grant Govee Home location access when requested. This permission is not required for every Govee model; an absent app entry means the app has not requested access.
For denied local access on iPhone, enable Govee Home, if listed, under Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. Selecting Allow at its permission prompt grants the same access. This restores local discovery or control; it does not itself connect the light to the router.
On Android, open Settings > Apps > Govee Home > Permissions.
Set Nearby devices to Allow if that permission is listed.
For a listed Location permission, choose Allow only while using the app. These checks also restore permissions Android removed while Govee Home was unused.
Refresh the app and setup phone
Work through these app fixes if pairing still fails.
- 1.Restart your phone, reopen Govee Home, and retry pairing.
- 2.Update Govee Home. On iPhone, open App Store > your account button or photo > App Updates, then tap Update beside the app. On Android, open Google Play Store > your profile icon > Manage apps & device > Updates available > See details, then tap Update beside the app.
- 3.If failures persist, uninstall Govee Home. On iPhone, touch and hold its icon, then select Remove App > Delete App > Delete. On Android, open Google Play Store > your profile icon > Manage apps & devices > Manage > Govee Home > Uninstall.
- 4.Reinstall through Govee’s official app download page, sign into your existing account, and repeat pairing.
- 5.For H607C Floor Lamp 2, repeat pairing near the lamp with another compatible phone and Bluetooth enabled. This tests for a phone-specific failure.
Use another network to narrow down the failure
Try pairing on another compatible 2.4 GHz network, preferably a second phone’s hotspot, using that network’s name and password. Successful pairing there points toward a problem with your home router or network.
If the hotspot phone is an iPhone 12 or later, enable Allow Others to Join under Settings > Personal Hotspot.
Enable Maximize Compatibility on that same screen.
Keep the Personal Hotspot screen open while connecting the setup phone and light.
Reset only with instructions for your model
Use a reset after checking the network, signal, and app. Match the procedure to your model, because the button sequence matters.
For three-button strip controllers covered by Govee’s FAQ, keep power connected and hold the power button while pressing the middle controller button four times. This combination applies to those strip controllers, not bulbs or lamps.
Pair the strip again in Govee Home.
For H705F Permanent Outdoor Lights 2, H7039 outdoor string lights, or H702A outdoor string lights, hold the control-box button for more than five seconds.
Remove the lights from Govee Home.
Add them again using + and their exact model number.
For H607C Floor Lamp 2, press the remote’s switch/power key, then press its color key ten times within seven seconds.
Reconnect the lamp in Govee Home.
For H60B0 Uplighter Floor Lamp, hold the power button on the lamp pole while pressing the Scene button four consecutive times.
Reconnect the uplighter in Govee Home.
For an H600A bulb, remove it from My Devices in Govee Home.
Tap +.
Search for H600A.
Select the bulb’s device icon.
Complete Wi-Fi setup with your network name and password.
If the matching reset or removal-and-pairing procedure fails even on another compatible network, contact Govee customer service about the light or controller. The H7039 manual lists [email protected] for assistance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can I control my Govee lights with Bluetooth but not Alexa or Google Home?
Bluetooth control does not confirm Wi-Fi or Internet access. Temporarily turn off your phone’s Bluetooth and test control in Govee Home. If control fails, investigate the light’s Wi-Fi or Internet connection. A red exclamation mark on the Wi-Fi icon is another warning. Restore Bluetooth before pairing again.
The light pairs on a hotspot but not my router. What should I check?
Check the home router’s blocked-device or MAC-filtering list and remove the light if blocked. Menu labels depend on the router. If the router has reached its supported device limit, disconnect nonessential Wi-Fi devices and retry pairing. There is no universal router device limit.
My Govee light is connected to eero but still offline in the app. What should I check?
Check whether eero paused the light or its profile. Find the light under Home’s Devices section or the Devices tab and select Resume device. For a paused profile, select it on Home and choose Resume profile. A paused device can remain connected to Wi-Fi while losing Internet access.
Can Matter bypass a Govee Wi-Fi connection problem?
No. Govee Matter lights require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with IPv6 enabled; a Thread border router does not bypass Wi-Fi failure. Enable phone Bluetooth and begin first Matter setup within fifteen minutes of powering on the light. If you also use Govee Home, complete Matter setup first, then add the light in Govee Home on the same LAN.
Why did Matter stop working after I changed the network in Govee Home?
Changing a Govee Matter light’s network through Govee Home disables its Matter connection. Reset the light using its model-specific procedure, then set it up again in your Matter ecosystem on the intended network.
