Your Elo monitor shows a clear picture, but nothing happens when you tap it. Start with the touch connection, then work through the fixes below for missing touch, dead spots, or taps landing in the wrong place. Use a mouse and keyboard while touch is unavailable.

Check the connection that carries touch

A working picture doesn't mean touch is connected. HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, and VGA connections alone don't carry USB touch data.

Connect the monitor’s USB touch cable to your computer using the connector specified for your model. On older Elo monitors with both USB and RS-232 touch interfaces, use only one touch interface.

Bypass USB hubs, KVM switches, extenders, and long cables with a direct connection to the computer using the monitor’s supplied six-foot cable. If touch returns, troubleshoot the removed accessory or cable with its manufacturer.

If the direct connection doesn't restore touch, check power next if the display is blank. If the picture is normal, skip to clearing the glass and its black border.

Restore power to a blank screen

If the display is blank, start with power and video connections. A single-cable USB-C setup also needs the right cable and source port.

Reconnect the power cable on an externally powered monitor, then press the monitor’s Power button. If the adapter is missing or suspect, enter your exact model in Elo’s Power Adapter and Cable Lookup. Match the recommended adapter and regional power cord to your monitor.

For single-cable operation on the 1002L, 1302L, 1304L, 1304LS, 1502L, 1504L, or 1504LS, use a USB-C cable and computer port supporting video, data, and sufficient power. Elo recommends cable E710364 for these models. Connect a tablet or mobile source device to external power when using it with a compatible Elo USB-C monitor. Check the source device’s specifications for USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode support.

Use a short USB-C cable rated for video and power delivery. Follow the computer manufacturer’s instructions for its USB-C and BIOS requirements.

Clear the glass and its black border

Shipping film, stickers, and tape touching the glass interfere with touch, including around the black border. Remove the shipping release liner, labels, and other applied items from the screen and border. This check is especially relevant to zero-bezel monitors with dead bands, partial response, or failed alignment.

Power down the monitor before cleaning. Dampen a nonabrasive cloth with an appropriate cleaner. Apply liquid to the cloth, never directly to the monitor.

Squeeze excess moisture out of the cloth, then wipe away adhesive residue and moisture. Remove water droplets from IntelliTouch screens. Let the surface dry completely.

Disconnect the monitor’s power cable for about 30 seconds. Reconnect power, then test touch again.

Enable touch in Windows

Right-click Start and select Device Manager. This check applies when Windows detects the monitor as an HID-compliant touchscreen.

Expand Human Interface Devices. Look for HID-compliant touch screen.

Right-click a disabled HID-compliant touch screen entry and select Enable device. Repeat for any additional disabled touchscreen entries.

If the installed Elo driver’s properties include Disable Touch, clear that checkbox. Select Apply to save the change. The checkbox’s location varies between driver generations.

Restart Windows and install touch updates

This addresses touch failures resolved by a Windows restart or an available software or driver update. Select Restart on the host computer. Retest touch before making further software changes.

If touch still fails on Windows 11, open Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options. Enable Receive updates for other Microsoft products. Under Additional options, open Optional updates. Select the available driver updates.

Choose Download and install. Return to Windows Update, then select Check for updates. Install the available updates. Select Restart after installation finishes.

On Windows 10, the update path is Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Update availability depends on its support arrangement.

Match the driver to your Elo monitor

Use this fix when touch still fails after the connection and Windows checks. PCAP/TouchPro and infrared monitors support native touch on compatible HID operating systems; IntelliTouch and AccuTouch driver requirements depend on the exact model.

For a PCAP/TouchPro or infrared monitor having problems with an installed Elo driver on a compatible Windows setup, uninstall that driver through Add or Remove Programs. This driver-removal advice does not apply to macOS. Restart the computer, then test native touch operation.

For a Windows monitor that needs the Elo driver, remove the existing Elo package through Add or Remove Programs before installing its replacement. Open Elo’s Windows 11 driver download page. Expand Current | Multi-Touch Driver — v9.3.0. For another Windows edition, choose your operating system in Elo’s Windows Touch Drivers selector and check the package’s compatibility.

Select Download, then complete the EULA acceptance. Right-click the downloaded package and choose Run as administrator. Select Ok, then select Setup. Choose I Accept the License Agreement.

Select OK when installation finishes. On a Mac, download the current MultiTouch Driver package from Elo’s macOS driver page. The package supports macOS 10.14 and later with an Intel/Apple silicon installer. Follow the package’s Installation Guide.

On macOS 13 or later, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. Enable the installed UPDD components requesting access, particularly UPDD Commander.

Align taps with the correct screen

If taps control the wrong display, search for Calibrate in Start. Open Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input.

Select Setup and follow the display-identification prompts. This assigns touch to the correct display on a Windows 10 or 11 multi-monitor setup.

For inaccurate positioning, select Calibrate in the same window and touch the displayed crosshairs. If that control is absent, use EloConfig with the installed Elo Multi-Touch driver.

Double-click EloConfig on the desktop and select Calibrate. Touch the targets, check tracking, and choose Accept or Retry. PCAP and infrared monitors show one mapping target rather than the three-target alignment sequence.

Isolate a failure that remains

Finish with these checks before arranging service.

  1. 1.With Elo Multi-Touch driver 8.0.0 or later, double-press Ctrl on an attached keyboard to reset all connected Elo controllers. The shortcut is unavailable when KeyboardResetController is set to 0 under [Common Settings] in EloOptions.ini.
  2. 2.For blank, distorted, or intermittent video, check the video connections and monitor controls.
  3. 3.Test the Elo monitor on a known-working computer, or test a known-working monitor on the original computer, to isolate the display or host failure.
  4. 4.For an unresolved failure, open Elo Support and choose Submit a Ticket. Use Check warranty status or the RMA Portal for service eligibility and repair processing. Options depend on the model, region, and warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does touch stop briefly during an Elo cleaning session?

Elo’s Clean Screen mode temporarily disables touch or the controller when configured to do so. Wait for its configured 10–120-second timeout. If the session keeps touch enabled, double-tap the screen to exit. Ask the administrator to review the cleaning automation if these interruptions keep recurring.

Should I update the monitor’s firmware to fix touch?

Try simpler fixes first. Elo recommends firmware updates as a last troubleshooting step. Use the firmware package and update instructions matching your exact monitor model.

What if an old Elo driver will not uninstall?

Download EloTouch_Uninstaller.bat from Elo’s official removal utility page. Right-click it and select Run as administrator. Confirm removal with YES, then select OK when prompted. Wait for completion and restart before installing the replacement driver.

Does Elo support touch on Linux?

Elo offers Linux packages for Intel/AMD i686 and x86_64, ARMv7 armv7l, and ARMv8/v9 aarch64. Choose the package matching your architecture and touch interface. Check its kernel requirements and readme before installation.
