Your VIZIO TV won’t connect to the internet, and you’re stuck before you’ve even picked something to watch. Start with a quick power restart, then check whether the trouble follows the TV or affects your whole network. Work through the Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and app-specific fixes below before reaching for a factory reset.

Give the TV a fresh start

A power restart refreshes the TV without erasing your settings. Disconnect the TV from power, then leave it unplugged for three minutes. Reconnect the power cable and turn the TV on. Try opening a streaming app again.

Check whether your home network is offline

When other devices cannot get online either, your home network needs troubleshooting. Test internet access on another device connected to the same router. Turn off the TV before restarting your network equipment.

Disconnect the modem and router from power for 30 seconds. Reconnect power to the modem and router. Wait at least one minute, and longer if the equipment is still reconnecting. Turn the TV back on and try streaming again.

If other devices still cannot get online, contact your internet provider to check for an outage or a router or modem configuration problem.

Reconnect Wi-Fi and improve the signal

On VIZIO models VHD24M, VHD32M, VFD32M, VFD40M, and VFD43M, press MENU on the remote. Open All Settings > Network, select your Wi-Fi network name, and enter its password.

Move the router and TV closer together where practical. Position the router in an open, elevated location, away from appliances and other wireless equipment. If your menus look different, follow your model’s instructions for connecting to Wi-Fi.

Bypass Wi-Fi with an Ethernet cable

Try a wired connection if your TV has a built-in Ethernet port. Among the models covered by VIZIO’s D-Series manual, only the D43fM-K04 has Ethernet.

Connect an Ethernet cable between the router and the TV’s Ethernet port. Then check whether the TV can access the internet.

If an existing wired connection fails, reseat the cable at the TV, then reseat the other end at the router. Try another Ethernet cable. Test another wired device on that connection. If it also fails, the wired connection needs troubleshooting too.

Review changes to your router settings

If you customized your network settings, work through these checks using your equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

  1. 1.Restore previously changed DNS, VPN or proxy, and modem connection settings to their defaults.
  2. 2.If your router uses MAC filtering, add the TV’s wireless MAC address for Wi-Fi or wired MAC address for Ethernet to its permitted-device list.
  3. 3.Retry internet access on the TV after making the relevant changes.

Refresh Netflix when other apps work

If the TV is online and other apps work, refresh Netflix’s sign-in before resetting the whole TV. This addresses the app’s state in errors such as ui-800-3; it does not reconnect a TV that has lost Wi-Fi.

Press Back inside Netflix to reach its menu. For the top-menu interface, open the profile icon. Select Get Help > Sign out > Yes; on the side-menu interface, start with Get Help at the bottom of the menu. Sign in again.

Once internet access works, open All Settings > Admin & Privacy > Check for Updates > Yes on TVs with that command. VIZIO includes this update route in its recovery instructions for affected 2016–2020 Google Cast models.

Allow any offered update to finish. The TV needs internet access to download it.

Save a factory reset for last

Use a factory reset only after the connection and restart checks fail. It restores defaults and removes saved Wi-Fi credentials, so you’ll need to set up the TV again.

This physical-button procedure applies only to VHD24M, VHD32M, VFD32M, VFD40M, and VFD43M. For another model, get its reset instructions from VIZIO Support.

Turn the TV on. Hold its physical Power/Input button beneath the remote sensor for 12 seconds. Complete setup again, including the Wi-Fi connection. If the reset does not restore internet access, contact VIZIO for model-specific troubleshooting or service.

Get help with a persistent failure

Contact your internet provider when other devices also fail. Explain whether the TV uses Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and ask the provider to check outages and router or modem configuration. Retest streaming after any changes.

For a persistent TV-specific problem, open VIZIO Support and select Contact Us, or use its service-request pages to request or track service. Have your model, serial number, and connection-check results ready.

On a campus, hotel, or other shared network, ask the network administrator for its device-connection procedure. Some managed residential networks require registration of the TV’s wired or wireless MAC address.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use VIZIO Mobile if I’ve lost the remote?

Yes, for a compatible TV reachable on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. Put the phone and TV on the same Wi-Fi network, then select the TV in VIZIO Mobile’s device selector and enter the four-digit code displayed on its screen. VIZIO also states that VIZIO Mobile functionality requires a VIZIO Account, so sign in to the app if it asks. The shared-network requirement makes it unsuitable for reconnecting a TV that is completely disconnected from Wi-Fi.

Does Quick Start fix an internet connection problem?

VIZIO documents Quick Start for Alexa or Google Assistant power-on problems on VHD24M, VHD32M, VFD32M, VFD40M, and VFD43M. That setting controls network wake behavior, not general internet troubleshooting.

Can I install a VIZIO firmware update using USB?

USB update eligibility depends on your exact model and serial number. Open VIZIO Support’s Firmware Search page for model-specific firmware information and installation instructions. There is no universal USB installation procedure for every VIZIO TV.

Is there a menu option for restarting the TV?

On TVs with the command, press the remote’s MENU button. Open All Settings > Admin & Privacy > Restart TV > Yes. Some models label the restart command Soft Power Cycle.
