A factory reset removes the saved Wi-Fi name and password from your Vizio TV. The TV can then see your network but fail to join it, stall during first-time setup, or finish setup without internet. Start with the setup screen, then move through the current Vizio network fixes that restore the connection.

Redo the first setup connection carefully

A common cause is a missing or mistyped Wi-Fi password, because the reset wipes the old saved network details. Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive, and your Wi-Fi password is not your email, account, or internet provider password.

On the first-time setup screen, select your language, then pair the voice remote if the TV asks. When setup reaches Wi-Fi, select your home network from the list and enter the Wi-Fi password exactly, including capital letters, numbers, and symbols. Select Connect, then install updates if the TV offers them. If account linking appears after the TV gets online, scan the QR code or enter the displayed code.

Reconnect from network settings

This fixes a TV that completed setup but is still offline or joined to the wrong network.

Press Menu or the Gear button on the remote, then open All Settings. Choose Network and select your Wi-Fi name from the available networks. Enter the Wi-Fi password, then select Connect.

Switch to the 2.4 GHz network

When the TV sees Wi-Fi but does not complete the connection, use the 2.4 GHz network name. Press Menu or Gear, open All Settings, choose Network, select the 2.4 GHz SSID, enter the password, and select Connect.

If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name, use the router or ISP app to give the 2.4 GHz band its own network name. Then return to All Settings and Network on the TV and connect to that 2.4 GHz name.

Vizio lists the 2.4 GHz network under improving the wireless signal, so this helps most when the TV sits far from the router or the signal is weak. Vizio also suggests it when the TV reports the wrong password or keeps disconnecting.

Restart the modem and router

Use this when the TV cannot get online, cannot get a network address, or other devices are also having connection trouble.

  1. 1.Unplug the modem and router from power.
  2. 2.Wait for the network equipment to fully shut down.
  3. 3.Plug the modem and router back in.
  4. 4.Wait until the internet and Wi-Fi lights stabilize.
  5. 5.On the TV, return to Menu or Gear, open All Settings, choose Network, select your Wi-Fi network, and choose Connect.

Power cycle the TV itself

Use this when the Wi-Fi screen stalls, setup freezes, or the TV behaves strangely right after the reset. A power cycle clears a temporary TV-side hang without erasing setup again.

Unplug the TV from the wall outlet and wait at least 5 seconds. While it is unplugged, press and hold the physical Power button on the TV for 3 to 5 seconds if your model has one. Then plug the TV back in, turn it on, and retry Wi-Fi setup.

For the menu restart on supported models, press Menu or Gear, open System, choose Admin & Privacy, then select Restart TV or Soft Power Cycle.

Check DHCP in manual setup

Try this when the TV finds the router but does not receive a working network address.

  1. 1.Press Menu or the Gear button.
  2. 2.Open All Settings, then choose Network.
  3. 3.Select Manual Setup.
  4. 4.Open DHCP.
  5. 5.If DHCP is off, turn it on. If DHCP is already on, turn it off, then turn it back on.
  6. 6.Retry the Wi-Fi connection from Network.

Improve the Wi-Fi signal around the TV

A weak signal can look like a password or setup failure because the TV may show the network name but fail before the connection finishes. Move the router closer to the TV, or move the TV closer to the router, then retry Menu or Gear, All Settings, Network, your Wi-Fi name, and Connect.

Remove large metal objects between the router and TV where possible, and reduce walls or other obvious barriers in the signal path. Keep the router away from common interference sources, then try connecting again from Network.

Do not rely on older WPS, hidden-network, USB keyboard, or VIA-era reset instructions as the main fix for a current Vizio OS TV after a factory reset. Use the current All Settings and Network connection path instead.

Use Ethernet to finish setup and update

If your Vizio TV has an Ethernet or RJ45 port, a wired connection can get setup and updates finished when Wi-Fi will not connect. Connect an Ethernet cable from the router or modem to the TV, then confirm the wired connection in the TV network menu if prompted.

Once the TV has internet, check for updates. Press Menu, open Admin & Privacy, choose Check for Updates, and install anything offered. On some models, use Menu or Settings, then System, then Check for Updates.

You can also open Vizio’s Firmware Search page on a phone or computer, enter the TV serial number, and follow the model-specific firmware instructions.

Unplug the Ethernet cable before you set up Wi-Fi. Vizio’s manuals note that while the TV is connected with an Ethernet cable, the wireless network connection menu does not appear, and setup skips the Wi-Fi step. With the cable out, reconnect from All Settings and Network, then try the DHCP toggle again.

Reset again after the network fixes fail

Vizio recommends a factory reset when the TV still cannot find Wi-Fi networks or cannot connect to the internet after the other steps. It erases saved settings, Wi-Fi networks, and account information, and you need a working physical Vizio remote to reconnect the TV to Wi-Fi afterward.

Press Menu or the Gear button, then open All Settings. Go to Admin & Privacy and select Reset to Factory Defaults. Choose Reset TV. After the TV restarts, complete first-time setup again and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

Menu names vary by model. Vizio says that if you do not see Admin & Privacy, look under the System or Help menu, and some models label the reset Reset TV to Factory Settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my Vizio TV forget Wi-Fi after a factory reset?

A factory reset removes saved Wi-Fi credentials, so the TV has to be connected again as if it were new.

Can I use the VIZIO mobile app as the remote after a reset?

Only after the TV is reachable for pairing. If the TV is offline and you do not have a working physical remote, Vizio says you need a replacement remote.

Should I connect my Vizio TV to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

Use the 2.4 GHz network when the TV sees Wi-Fi but cannot finish connecting. If your router combines both bands under one name, separate the 2.4 GHz name in the router or ISP app, then connect the TV to that name.

Does linking my Vizio account fix Wi-Fi?

No. Account linking can appear during or after setup with a QR code or displayed code, but the TV needs a working internet connection first.
