Your Honeywell thermostat screen is blank, and you can't see the temperature or adjust your heating and cooling. Start with power and batteries, then move to display settings if the screen still responds. The checks below help you find the right fix for your model.

Start with the thermostat’s power supply

Check the heating and cooling circuit breaker. A thermostat powered by your HVAC system needs that electrical supply to display anything.

Reset the breaker if it has tripped.

Make sure the equipment power switch is on. These checks apply to models including the T6 Pro, X8S/X8Q, and FocusPRO P200.

Before going further, enter your product name or model number in Resideo’s thermostat troubleshooting selector.

Select the matching device for model-specific help. Battery requirements, wiring, and display controls differ, so keep its manual handy.

If restoring power doesn't bring the screen back, check the batteries next. If your thermostat doesn't use batteries, move to the equipment access-door check below.

Replace depleted or incorrectly installed batteries

Depleted or incorrectly installed batteries are a direct cause of a blank battery-powered thermostat display.

For a FocusPRO P200, model TH2110U4004 or TH2320U4006, pull the thermostat away from its mounting plate.

Replace the batteries with fresh AA batteries, matching the polarity diagram inside the compartment.

Align the thermostat with its mount and press gently until it snaps into place.

On an X1N, X2P, or non-WiFi T6 Pro model TH6320U2008, TH6220U2000, or TH6210U2001, use the matching manual’s instructions to access the battery compartment.

Install fresh AA alkaline batteries in the marked orientation.

On a T6 Pro, BATT or battery alerts 405 and 407 also point to battery replacement. Low batteries disable the backlight; critically low batteries leave only battery-related indicators. Turning up the brightness won't fix that.

Close the equipment access door securely

Check that the furnace or air-handler access panel is properly fitted and fully closed. On equipment with an access-door interlock, an unsecured panel interrupts the power needed by the thermostat.

Honeywell includes this check for the X7S/X7B and hardwired T6 Pro. It's a straightforward check to finish before touching any wiring.

Wake the screen before changing brightness

These checks address an unlit or dim display that still has power and responds.

On a T4 Pro TH4210U2002 or TH4110U2005, press any button to illuminate the screen temporarily. It dims again after inactivity.

On a T1 Pro TH1110D2009 or TH1010D2000, press any button to activate the temporary backlight.

For a T9, touch the display to wake it.

Open MENU > preferences > Display.

Increase Inactive backlight setting or Inactive Sleep backlight setting above 0%, depending on when the screen goes dark.

Check the associated sleep times.

Select Done to save.

For a T10 or T10+, touch the screen to wake it.

Open Menu > Preferences > Display > Backlight.

Adjust the brightness for the affected period: active use, inactivity, or nighttime. A nighttime value of 0% deliberately leaves the display unlit.

Check the night start and end times.

Select Done.

For another model, follow its matching manual’s display instructions.

Check wiring only after switching power off

Turn off HVAC equipment power before touching thermostat wiring. The following checks apply only to compatible low-voltage Honeywell Home thermostats; mains-voltage repairs belong with a qualified professional.

For a thermostat that requires a common wire, verify that its C terminal connects to C at the furnace or air handler. Finding a spare wire behind the thermostat doesn't establish that it's connected at the equipment.

On an X2S, check that the terminal connections, especially C, are secure.

On a thermostat equipped with an R/Rc selector labeled 1 Wire and 2 Wire, set it to match the wiring. One wire in R and no separate Rc wire requires the upper 1 Wire position; separate R and Rc wires require 2 Wire.

Restore equipment power after completing the checks.

Leave these connection checks to an HVAC professional if you can't confidently identify the terminals or wiring arrangement.

Address repeated Honeywell Home startup screens

These checks address X8S/X8Q displays that repeatedly go blank and restart.

Allow startup to finish after a power interruption or automatic firmware update. Normal startup ends at the idle display.

Replace the furnace filter if startup repeats regularly. Honeywell identifies airflow-related limit trips as one cause of repeated power interruptions.

Arrange HVAC service if the restarts continue.

Get help when the display stays blank

Still looking at a blank screen? After the model-appropriate power, battery, and connection checks, the next step is further diagnosis. For compatible 20–30 VAC thermostats, have a professional measure the supply between R/RC and C and address readings outside that range.

Open Resideo’s support center.

Select My device isn’t working for troubleshooting or I need to find a manual for your model’s instructions.

For direct help, call technical support at 1-800-633-3991 or select CHAT WITH A SPECIALIST.

A factory reset won't restore missing electrical power. Honeywell’s reset procedures require usable controls, differ by model, and require setup afterward.

If support troubleshooting doesn't restore the display, select FIND A PRO to arrange equipment and wiring diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Honeywell thermostat show the temperature but ignore touches?

On a WiFi 9000, wait 30 seconds if Clean Screen is active. Touch input returns automatically when the timer expires. On an X8S/X8Q displaying Setting locked, have the owner open Menu > Screen lock and change the restriction, entering the configured password if requested.

Can I keep a T6 Pro backlight on continuously?

Yes. On non-WiFi T6 Pro models TH6210U2001, TH6220U2000, and TH6320U2008, continuous backlighting requires a common wire. Hold CENTER and + for about three seconds. Select ISU. Use Select to reach 1400, then use + or - to choose 1, Continuous. Confirm with Select. At 1401, choose a brightness level from 1–5 with + or -. Confirm with Select and save with Home. These instructions exclude RTH6330.

Why doesn’t my T10 screen light up when I change the temperature in the app?

The thermostat has a separate setting for this behavior. On a T10 or T10+, open Menu > Preferences > Display > App change behavior. Choose Yes. Select Done. This enables illumination after an app adjustment; it cannot restore lost thermostat power.
