Wiping your Nothing Phone (3) clean is a powerful step, whether you're passing it on to someone else, troubleshooting deep-seated software glitches, or simply craving a fresh start. It completely erases all your personal data, apps, and settings, returning the phone to its out-of-the-box state.

Back Up Your Data First

This is the most critical step. Once you wipe the phone, everything on it is gone for good. Start by ensuring your Google account backup is current. Head to Settings > System > Backup and verify the backup is on. Tap Back up now for an immediate sync to Google Drive.

Don't forget about your photos and videos. Open Google Photos and check that all your media is fully synced to the cloud. I'd also recommend manually saving any important files or documents to a computer or another cloud service, just to be safe.

Sign Out of Accounts and Remove Locks

To avoid any Factory Reset Protection (FRP) locks after the wipe, you need to remove your Google account. Go to Settings > Passwords & accounts, select your Google account, and choose Remove account. Confirm the removal when prompted.

You should also disable any screen locks, like your PIN, pattern, or password, before proceeding. This isn't always strictly necessary if you know your current lock, but it can prevent a hiccup during the final confirmation step of the reset process.

Perform the Factory Reset from Settings

With your data secured and accounts removed, you're ready. Navigate to Settings > System > Reset options. Here, you'll find the option for Erase all data (factory reset). Tapping this will show you a final summary of everything that will be deleted.

If you have a screen lock still active, you'll be asked to enter your PIN, pattern, or password one last time to confirm. After that, tap Erase all data. The phone will reboot and begin the wiping process, which usually takes a couple of minutes. When it's done, you'll be greeted by the initial Nothing OS setup screen.

Use Recovery Mode If the Phone Won't Boot

If your Phone (3) is frozen, stuck in a boot loop, or completely unresponsive, you can still wipe it using the hardware buttons. First, make sure the phone is powered off. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button together for about 10 to 15 seconds.

Release the buttons when you see the Nothing logo or a bootloader menu. Use the volume buttons to scroll to Recovery Mode and press the power button to select it. When you see the Android robot with an exclamation mark, hold the power button and briefly press the volume up button.

This will bring up the recovery menu. Navigate using the volume keys to Wipe data/factory reset and select it with the power button. Confirm your choice on the next screen. Once the reset is complete, select Reboot system now to start fresh.

Explore Less Drastic Reset Options

Factory resetting is a full nuclear option. For solving specific issues without losing your photos and apps, Nothing OS offers targeted resets. Go back to Settings > System > Reset options.

Here, you can choose to Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth, which clears all saved networks and pairing data. Reset app preferences reverts all your app permissions and default app assignments without deleting the apps themselves. These can fix a lot of common connectivity and app behavior problems.

Setting Up Your Phone After the Wipe

Once the reset is complete, you'll walk through the standard setup process. Choose your language, connect to a Wi-Fi network, and sign back into your primary Google account. When prompted, you can choose to restore your apps and settings from the Google Drive backup you made earlier.

Take your time reconfiguring your Glyph Interface lights and other Nothing OS customizations. Since you're on a clean slate, it's also a good moment to check for any system updates in Settings > System > System update to ensure you have the latest optimizations.

When a Full Wipe Makes Sense

A factory reset is your best tool for preparing the Phone (3) for sale or trade-in, as it guarantees your personal data is removed. It's also a definitive fix for persistent software problems like severe lag, constant app crashes, or unexplained battery drain that survives normal troubleshooting.

For less severe issues, like a single misbehaving app or Bluetooth pairing troubles, always try the targeted reset options or simply clearing the app's cache and data first. The full wipe is a powerful solution, but it's one that requires a bit of prep work to do safely.
