Posted a Snapchat Story you want to take back? You can remove it straight from your profile on iPhone or Android. Start with the unwanted Snap, then check saved copies and shared links so you don't leave those behind.

Delete a Snap from your Story

Tap your profile or Bitmoji icon to open My Account. Under My Stories, tap My Story. Advance to the Snap you want to remove.

Press and hold the Snap. Tap Delete Snap. Repeat for every Snap you want gone.

If this method fails, try the swipe-up deletion controls described under “Remove public Story Snaps and Snap Map submissions” below. They also work for your own My Story Snaps.

Clear the whole Story

To clear My Story, delete every Snap individually. There's no single command that clears all of it. Shared Story owners, however, can delete their entire Story and its Snaps.

For a Shared Story you own, tap the Profile button to open My Account. Tap the three-dot button beside your Shared Story to open its management settings. Snapchat confirms owners can delete the entire Shared Story, but its documentation doesn't say where that deletion action appears or how to confirm it.

For individual Shared Story contributions, use the swipe-up deletion procedure below. Owners and appointed moderators can remove any contribution; ordinary members can remove only their own. Private Story creators can also remove other people's contributions to their Story.

Remove My Story posts from a computer

Use Snapchat's desktop portal to delete My Story posts; this web deletion option is unavailable for Public Profiles.

  1. 1.Sign in at profile.snapchat.com.
  2. 2.Click My Posts.
  3. 3.Select the unwanted Snap under My Story.
  4. 4.Click Delete.
  5. 5.Click Delete again to confirm.
  6. 6.Repeat for any other posts you want to remove.

Remove public Story Snaps and Snap Map submissions

These controls remove active public Story Snaps or your own Snap Map submissions. Tap your profile icon to open your account.

Open your active public Story under My Stories. This is where Snapchat places active public Stories for Snap Star, Business, and Publisher accounts. Advance to the unwanted Snap.

Swipe up to reveal its controls. Tap the garbage-can icon at the bottom. Tap Delete.

For a Snap Map submission, open Spotlight & Snap Map from your account profile instead. Press and hold the unwanted submission. Tap Delete Snap. This also removes the submission from Search, Context Cards, and the Map.

Deleting a published Story doesn't remove every saved copy or public link. Memories, saved Chat content, and saved Public Profile Stories need separate attention.

For a copy in Memories, swipe up from the Camera screen to open Memories. Press and hold the saved Snap. Tap Delete. Repeat for other saved Story Snaps.

For a copy saved in a one-to-one conversation, open the relevant Chat. Press and hold the saved Story Snap or Chat Media. Tap Delete. Either participant can delete content saved in that Chat.

For an auto-saved profile Story, open Public Profile from your profile. Press and hold the saved Story. Review the Story's options. Snapchat documents Review & Edit Story here for editing a saved Story and confirms you can delete Stories auto-saved to your Public Profile, but it doesn't name the deletion control.

Want all public and saved Stories removed from your Public Profile? Clear Public Profile permanently removes them, along with your bio, profile photo, and applicable enhanced profile benefits. It leaves your Snapchat account, Spotlight submissions, and Snap Map submissions in place.

Open your Public Profile. Tap its top-right three-dot menu to open Public Profile Settings. Scroll down to Clear Public Profile.

Select Clear Public Profile. Confirm the removal.

For a public share link, open the link in your device's browser while signed in to the Snapchat app. Tap Open in Snapchat. Tap the top-right three-dot menu.

Choose the link deletion option. Snapchat does not specify its exact label. This deletes the link, not the underlying Snap; deleting the Snap or Memory does not invalidate the link.

Check why a deleted Snap still appears

Snapchat attempts to remove a deleted Snap from its servers and your friends' devices, but a poor connection or an older Snapchat app on a recipient's device can prevent that removal. In that case, the deleted Snap may still appear for a brief moment.

Reopen My Story to check whether the unwanted Snap remains in your own Story. Remove saved copies using the separate controls above. A Story saved through a Chat reply can remain in Chat. Screenshots and exported copies cannot be recalled.

Delete public share links separately using the procedure above. Without separate deletion, a link remains accessible until its approximately 36-hour expiry.

Changing Story privacy doesn't delete an existing Story or change the audience of an already-posted Snap. Clearing Snapchat's cache doesn't delete Snaps either.

Report someone else's Story

Report rule-breaking content for Snapchat to review; reporting doesn't guarantee removal, and hiding a Story only changes your feed.

  1. 1.Open the offending Story Snap.
  2. 2.Press and hold it.
  3. 3.Tap Report Snap.
  4. 4.Explain the issue and complete the report. Snapchat reviews the report to decide whether to remove violating content.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Snapchat Stories disappear automatically?

My Story and Shared Story Snaps normally expire 24 hours after posting, unless a different duration applies. Private and Shared Stories also delete by default after 24 hours without a new contribution. Public Map submissions follow different retention periods.

Can I make a Snapchat Story expire sooner instead of deleting it?

Snapchat+ subscribers can set My Story Timer while preparing a post. Its durations are 1, 6, 12, or 24 hours, or 2 days, 3 days, or 1 week. Snapchat's timer instructions cover setting the duration before posting and don't describe changing it for an already-posted Snap. To remove a posted Snap sooner, delete it.

Do I need to delete my Snapchat account to remove a Story?

No. Account deletion starts account-wide deactivation and eventual deletion. It isn't an immediate, selective Story-removal tool.

Who can remove Story Snaps from a managed Public Profile?

For Snap Star and Business Public Profiles, a Profile Admin can remove any Snap from Saved Stories or the public Story. A Profile Collaborator can remove any public Story Snap, while a Story Contributor can remove only their own contributions.
