Deleting a ChatGPT account is simple when you use the right account path, but the wrong control only changes privacy, billing, or app access.
Start with the ChatGPT website if you can sign in. Use the iPhone or Android app when you manage the account there, and use the Privacy Portal when sign-in is blocked.
Deleting the app, deleting chats, clearing history, turning off training, using Temporary Chat, disconnecting apps, removing payment methods, or canceling a subscription does not delete your ChatGPT account.
Check What Deletion Does First
Account deletion is separate from billing and privacy controls. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, cancel that subscription separately because deleting your OpenAI account does not cancel the mobile subscription.
Make sure you are signed in to the ChatGPT account you want to delete before you start. The final web confirmation uses your account email address or phone number and the word DELETE.
For a personal account, use Settings in ChatGPT first. If sign-in is blocked, use the Privacy Portal.
Delete Your Account On The ChatGPT Website
What this fixes: This deletes a self-managed consumer ChatGPT account from a browser when you can sign in.
Sign in to ChatGPT on the web, then open your account menu and select Settings. Go to Account, then next to Delete account, select Delete.
Enter your account email address or phone number, then type DELETE when prompted. Choose Permanently delete my account to finish.
Remove A ChatGPT Account From iPhone
Open the ChatGPT app on your iPhone, then go to your account settings. Select Data Controls and tap Delete Account.
Tap Delete Account again to confirm, or choose Cancel to stop. Cancel your Apple App Store subscription separately if you have one.
Delete Your Account In The Android App
This method applies when you use the ChatGPT Android app and still have access to the account settings. It is for self-managed consumer accounts.
Open the ChatGPT app, then tap the two lines in the top-left corner to open the menu. At the bottom-right of the menu, select the dots next to your name to open Settings.
Select Data Controls and tap Delete Account. Confirm by tapping Delete Account in the confirmation modal. Cancel your Google Play subscription separately if you have one.
Use The Privacy Portal When Sign In Fails
Use the Privacy Portal when you cannot sign in but still control the email address or phone number linked to the account.

- 4.Select Delete my ChatGPT account.

Fix Failed Verification
The most common blocker is losing access to the email address or phone number tied to the ChatGPT account.
Go to help.openai.com and open the chat bubble icon in the bottom-right corner. Start a support chat, then provide the account-identifying details requested by Support.
Use this route when normal verification cannot be completed, including when you cannot access either the linked email or phone number, or when a deactivated phone-only account cannot complete verification.
Handle Work Or School ChatGPT Accounts
ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, Healthcare, and Teachers workspaces do not support self-service account deletion from ChatGPT settings. Contact your organization administrator, IT or security team, or organization help desk.
Workspace access removal is handled by the organization. Admins remove members from Workspace settings, then Members, then the member’s more options menu, then Remove member.
For SCIM-managed members, removal happens through the identity provider. Removing access revokes workspace access, but it is not the same as deleting a personal consumer account.
