Unwanted messages or comments on TikTok? You can block someone from their profile, an existing chat, or comments on your own posts. Start with their profile if you want to block a single account on iPhone or Android.
Block someone from their profile
Open the person's profile in the TikTok app. This works in the TikTok app on iPhone and Android. Tap Share at the top of their profile.
Then tap Block at the bottom of the menu. Tap Block again to confirm. TikTok removes your prior connection and does not send the person a block notification.
Stop contact from an existing chat
Already have a conversation with the person? You can block them right from your inbox. The shortcut differs between iPhone and Android.
On iPhone, open Inbox. Swipe the person's chat, then tap More. Choose Block.
Tap Block again to confirm.
On Android, open Inbox. Press and hold the person's chat. Tap Block, then tap Block again to confirm.
If the inbox shortcut fails, open the conversation. Tap More options … at the top.
Turn on Block. The chat becomes labeled as blocked. If neither chat route works, use the profile blocking steps above.
Block a filtered message request
You can also block the sender of a filtered message request where this feature is available. TikTok requires Safe mode to be on to filter sensitive messages.
Open Inbox in the TikTok app. Go to Message requests, then open Filtered requests.
Select the request from the person you want to block. Choose Tap here within the selected request. Tap Block to block the sender.
Block several accounts from your comments
This lets you block one or several commenters on your own posts. Open one of your posts and tap Comments.
Tap Filters at the top. Select comments from the accounts you want to block. Tap More.
Choose Block accounts, then tap Block to confirm.
To start without Filters, press and hold a comment on your post instead. Choose Manage multiple comments. Select comments from the accounts you want to block.
Tap More, then choose Block accounts. Tap Block to confirm. These are the current routes to use in place of older pencil-icon directions.
Find the missing profile block button
Older directions point to a three-dot profile menu, while TikTok's current mobile path starts with Share. Open the person's profile in the main TikTok app on iPhone or Android.
Tap Share at the top. Select Block at the bottom. Confirm with Block again.
Three-dot controls inside conversations and other TikTok screens serve separate functions. The profile menu change does not replace those controls.
Block a viewer during LIVE
LIVE creators and moderators with the relevant permissions can block viewers during a broadcast. This option is available in the mobile app and the browser LIVE interface.
During the LIVE, tap the viewer's profile in chat. In a browser, click their profile instead. Open More ..., then choose Block.
Blocking through LIVE moderation notifies the viewer. It also blocks them from interacting with the creator's posts, profile, and messages. Moderators using the browser LIVE interface do not need LIVE Studio or OBS to block a viewer.
Review your blocked accounts
This screen shows accounts you have already blocked; it does not add new blocks. Open Profile in the TikTok app, then tap Menu ☰.
Choose Settings and privacy. Open Privacy. Tap Blocked accounts, scrolling down if necessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does blocking a LIVE viewer only affect LIVE chat?
No. LIVE moderation blocking also blocks the viewer from interacting with the creator's posts, profile, and messages. It notifies the viewer that they have been blocked.
Why can I still see someone after blocking them?
Blocking does not prevent every shared appearance. You can still see blocked people in multi-host LIVE sessions, other people's Duets, or shared group chats.
Does reporting someone block them or get them banned?
Reporting and blocking are separate controls. Reporting asks TikTok to moderate an account or content and does not guarantee an account ban.
Can I block an account for my teen?
A parent or guardian with linked Family Pairing accounts can manage blocked accounts for their teen. The feature is not available everywhere, and a parent cannot search for an account that has already blocked the parent.
