Spam calls and unwanted messages are a constant annoyance, but your ASUS ROG Phone 9 makes it easy to block them. Once you block a number, they can't call or text you. Here's how to do it and manage your blocked list on Android 15.
Block from Recent Calls
Open the Phone app and go to your recent calls list. Find the number you want to block, tap and hold it, then select Block/report spam. Confirm your choice, and calls from this number will be silently rejected going forward. This is usually the fastest way to stop a persistent caller.
Block from Messages
Open the Messages app and find the conversation from the unwanted number. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right, then tap Details. From there, select Block & report spam. This stops their texts and helps improve Google's spam filters for everyone.
Block from Contacts
If you need to block someone already in your address book, open the Contacts app. Find the person, tap to open their contact card, then tap the three-dot menu. Select Block numbers to block calls and messages from all the numbers listed for that contact.
View and Manage Blocked Numbers
To see who you've blocked or to unblock someone, open the Phone app. Tap the three-dot menu and go to Settings > Blocked numbers. You'll see your full list. Tap the X or Unblock button next to any number to remove it from the list. You can also manually add numbers here.
Enable Spam Call Filtering
Google's Phone app has built-in spam detection. On your ROG Phone 9, go to Phone > Settings > Caller ID & spam. Toggle on See caller and spam ID and Filter spam calls. Suspected spam calls are then silently rejected or flagged with a warning before you answer, which saves you from even seeing them ring.
Block Unknown Callers
For a more aggressive approach, you can block all calls from numbers not in your contacts. Go to Phone > Settings > Blocked numbers and toggle on Block unknown callers. This is very effective against random spam, but legitimate callers can still leave a voicemail if you miss them.
What Happens When You Block Someone
When you block a number on your ASUS phone, the caller typically hears one ring and then goes to voicemail, or they might hear a busy tone. They won't receive a specific notification that they've been blocked. Text messages from blocked numbers are silently dropped and won't appear in your Messages app at all.
Block Spam from Email
If you're getting spam in your Gmail, open the app and find the unwanted email. Open it, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and select Block [sender]. Future emails from that address go straight to your Spam folder. To see your blocked senders list, go to Settings > [your account] > Blocked addresses.
Use Third-Party Call Blockers
For more powerful spam filtering, you can install an app like Truecaller from the Play Store. These apps maintain huge databases of known spam numbers and can block them automatically before your phone even rings. They also identify unknown callers using crowdsourced data. Just follow the app's setup to enable system-wide call filtering.
