Your @verizon.net email opens through AOL when the account was migrated to AOL Mail. The old Verizon webmail portal is retired, so use AOL's current sign-in page or a supported mail app. Start with web access, then use the setup path that matches your phone, tablet, or desktop mail client.

1. Open Verizon AOL Mail in a browser

The fastest way in is the AOL Mail website. It works for migrated @verizon.net accounts hosted by AOL.

  1. 1.Open current Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or AOL Desktop Gold.
  2. 2.Go to https://mail.aol.com.
  3. 3.Enter your full Verizon email address, including @verizon.net.
  4. 4.Select Next.
  5. 5.Enter your AOL password or complete verification.
  6. 6.Select Sign in.

AOL supports desktop browser access on Windows 7 or newer and Mac OS X or newer. Internet Explorer is not supported.

2. Use AOL Mail on a phone or tablet

Open your mobile browser, then go to https://mail.aol.com. Sign in with your full @verizon.net address, enter your AOL password, and use Inbox, Compose, folders, and settings from the mobile web interface.

You do not need an app just to check mail on a mobile device. The AOL Mail mobile site includes Inbox, Compose, folders, and settings.

AOL lists mobile browser support for iOS Safari 12+, iOS Firefox 17+, iOS Chrome 61+, UC Browser 12+, Android Opera 51+, Android Chrome 61+, and Samsung Internet 6+. AOL also lists iOS 14+ and Android 9+ as mobile OS minimums.

3. Install the official AOL app

The official AOL app is the cleanest home-screen option for Verizon AOL Mail.

On iPhone or iPad: Open the App Store, tap Search, type AOL, tap Search, then tap Get next to AOL Mail, News, Weather or AOL News Email Weather Video. Authenticate with Touch ID, Face ID, or your Apple ID, then tap Open and sign in with your full @verizon.net address.

On Android: Open the Google Play Store and search for AOL. Choose AOL Email News Weather or AOL News Mail and Video, tap Install, then tap Open. Sign in with your full @verizon.net address.

Use AOL's official app page, AOL Help links, the App Store, or Google Play. Skip third-party APK sites and download portals.

4. Add Verizon AOL Mail to iPhone or iPad Mail

Open Settings, then go to Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts. Tap Add Account, choose AOL, and enter your full @verizon.net address. Follow the prompts, enter your password, then tap Next or Save.

Start with Apple's AOL account option. It uses AOL's provider sign-in flow for accounts that support it.

If you need manual setup, go to Add Account and enter your full @verizon.net address. Tap Next, choose Add Other Account, and tap Mail Account.

For IMAP, use imap.aol.com, port 993, SSL, and outgoing server smtp.verizon.net, port 465, SSL. Use your full @verizon.net address as the username.

For POP3, use incoming server pop.verizon.net, port 995, SSL, and outgoing server smtp.verizon.net, port 465, SSL. Back up mail before switching between POP and IMAP.

5. Set up Android mail apps

Use the official AOL app when you want the shortest Android setup. Use the Gmail or Samsung Email paths when you want Verizon AOL Mail inside a built-in mail client.

Open the Gmail app, tap your profile picture, and tap Add another account. Choose Other, enter your full @verizon.net address, tap Next, and choose Personal IMAP. Enter an AOL app password, tap Next, then use incoming server imap.aol.com, port 993, and SSL/TLS. Use outgoing server smtp.verizon.net, port 465, and SSL, then finish the on-screen steps.

On Samsung Email: Open Android Settings, then go to Accounts and backup, then Manage accounts. Remove the existing AOL or Verizon account, tap Add account, and choose Email. Tap the AOL logo, then sign in with your full @verizon.net address and AOL password.

6. Connect Outlook Thunderbird or another mail client

IMAP incoming Use imap.aol.com, port 993, with SSL. POP3 incoming Use pop.verizon.net, port 995, with SSL. SMTP outgoing Use smtp.verizon.net, port 465, with SSL. Username Use the full @verizon.net email address.

Use these current Verizon AOL server settings for desktop mail clients that support IMAP or POP over SSL. Choose IMAP for normal syncing across devices. Use POP only when you specifically want POP behavior, because AOL says POP downloads only Inbox messages and does not sync folders like IMAP.

In classic Outlook for Windows: Go to File and select Add Account. Enter your full @verizon.net address, select Advanced options, and choose Let me set up my account manually. Select Connect, choose IMAP, and enter the settings above. Select Next, enter an AOL app password, and select Connect.

In Thunderbird: Go to Tools, select Account Settings, and open Account Actions. Choose Add Mail Account, then enter your full @verizon.net address.

As of Thunderbird 148.0, AOL uses OAuth2 secure sign-in by default, so authenticate in the AOL sign-in window that opens with your regular AOL account password, not an app password. For an existing account that stopped connecting, set the incoming and outgoing Authentication method to OAuth2.

7. Generate an AOL app password

Use an AOL app password when a mail app does not use AOL's branded sign-in page.

Open the AOL Account Security page, then select Generate app password or Generate and manage app passwords. Select Get Started, enter the app name, and select Generate password. Enter that app password in the mail app.

For those apps, create an AOL app password and use it instead of your regular AOL password. App passwords stay active until deleted, even after your main AOL password changes. To revoke one, return to Generate and manage app passwords, select Delete next to the app password, then select Delete again.

8. Restore access after a sign-in failure

Reauthenticate the account before changing server settings after a password or security change.

On iOS 18: Open Settings, then go to Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts. Tap the AOL Mail account, select Re-enter Password, and enter your AOL username and password. Complete verification.

If that does not restore access, use the same Mail Accounts screen and tap the account. Select Delete Account, confirm Delete Account, then tap Add Account. Choose AOL, enter your AOL username and password, and tap Save.

For third-party mail apps, remove the existing AOL or Verizon account and add it again. Choose the AOL logo or AOL branded sign-in page when the app offers it. If the app does not offer AOL secure sign-in, generate a new AOL app password.

9. Avoid old Verizon webmail and outdated settings

Use https://mail.aol.com for migrated AOL accounts, not old Verizon webmail URLs such as webmail.verizon.com or webmail.verizon.net. Verizon retired its email service. Verizon-routed Yahoo users use the Verizon Yahoo page instead.

Current Verizon AOL Mail setup uses imap.aol.com for IMAP, pop.verizon.net for POP, smtp.verizon.net for SMTP, SSL, and the full @verizon.net address as the username. Do not use old server names such as imap.verizon.net, incoming.verizon.net, or Verizon-only webmail credentials.

If the Verizon.net account was never migrated before Verizon's retirement deadline, Verizon says customers no longer have the option to keep that address or extract the deleted mail, calendar, and address book data from Verizon systems.

10. Refresh Verizon AOL Mail in Apple Mail on Mac

Open Mail, choose Settings, and select the AOL Mail account. Open Server Settings, then delete and re-enter the password under Incoming Mail Server. Delete and re-enter the password under Outgoing Mail Server, then click Save.

On a Mac, use Apple Mail with the AOL-hosted account and your full @verizon.net address. For an existing account that fails to send or receive, re-enter the password inside Mail.

When Server Settings cannot be edited, remove the account and add it again through Apple Mail's AOL provider flow.
