When the sound cuts out on your CMF Phone 2 Pro, it can feel like you're suddenly holding a very quiet piece of plastic. The good news is that most audio problems are just software hiccups or simple settings that got flipped. I'd start with the quick fix below, as it resolves the issue more often than not.

If you're not hearing anything from the speakers, the first thing to try is a force restart. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until you feel the phone vibrate and the screen goes black. Keep holding until you see the Nothing logo appear, then let go. This clears out any temporary glitches in the system without touching your data.

Check All Your Volume Levels

Nothing OS has separate volume sliders for different types of audio. While you're playing music or a video, press the volume up button on the side of the phone. This adjusts the media volume, which is often the culprit.

For a more detailed look, go into Settings > Sound & vibration. Here you'll see sliders for Ring & notification volume, Media volume, and Alarm volume. Make sure none of them are slid all the way down to zero. The "Sound mode" at the top should also be set to "Sound," not "Vibrate" or "Silent."

Disconnect Any Bluetooth Devices

Your CMF Phone 2 Pro might be trying to send audio to a paired speaker, headphones, or your car. To check, pull down the quick settings panel from the top of the screen twice and look for the Bluetooth icon. If it's highlighted, tap it to turn Bluetooth off completely.

You can also go to Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Bluetooth. Here, you can see a list of paired devices. Tap the settings icon next to any connected device and select "Disconnect." This ensures audio routes back to your phone's internal speakers.

Clean the Speaker Grilles Carefully

The speaker on the CMF Phone 2 Pro can easily get clogged with pocket lint or dust. Take a look at the bottom edge of the phone where the main speaker grille is located. Use the flashlight on another phone or a bright light to see if there's any visible debris.

For cleaning, a soft-bristled toothbrush or a dry cotton swab is your best bet. Gently brush or tap the grille to dislodge any dust. Never use compressed air or poke anything sharp like a pin into the holes, as you can easily damage the speaker behind the mesh.

Review Do Not Disturb and App-Specific Settings

If your sound is missing for notifications or calls, check the Do Not Disturb rules. Open Settings > Sound & vibration > Do Not Disturb. Make sure the main toggle at the top is switched off. Also, look at any scheduled times or rules that might be active and silencing your phone.

Sometimes, a single app loses its sound permissions. If it's just YouTube or Spotify that's silent, open Settings > Apps and select the problematic app. Tap Permissions and ensure the "Microphone" permission is granted, as some media apps require it for sound processing, oddly enough.

Check for a Software Update

Nothing is pretty good about pushing out fixes for bugs like audio problems. To see if an update is waiting, head to Settings > System > System update. Tap "Check for update." If one is available, download and install it. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and has at least a 50% charge, or better yet, plug it into a 33W charger first.

Boot Into Safe Mode to Find a Bad App

If the sound issue started after you installed a new app, that app could be the cause. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all third-party apps. To enter Safe Mode, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears.

Then, tap and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will appear asking if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK." Your phone will restart, and you'll see "Safe mode" in the bottom corner. Test your sound now. If it works, a recently downloaded app is likely the problem. Restart normally to exit Safe Mode and start uninstalling apps one by one to find the culprit.

Clear the Cache Partition

Corrupted system cache can mess with audio drivers. Clearing it is safe and won't delete your photos or apps. First, power your CMF Phone 2 Pro off completely. Now, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button at the same time.

Hold them both until you see the Nothing logo, then let go. You'll be taken to the recovery menu. Use the volume buttons to scroll down to "Wipe cache partition" and press the power button to select it. Confirm the action, then select "Reboot system now." This process takes less than a minute.

Reset All App Preferences (Not Your Data)

This is a useful middle step before a full reset. It resets all your app permissions, notifications, and default apps without touching your personal files. Go to Settings > System > Reset options.

Tap on "Reset app preferences." Confirm the action. After your phone reboots, you'll need to re-grant permissions when you use apps for the first time, but it often clears up weird system conflicts causing sound to fail.
