Twitter source code leaked online, company investigates potential security risks

Twitter's source code, the underlying programming that powers the social media platform, has been leaked online..

According to a report by the New York Times, portions of Twitter's source code have been leaked online. This code serves as the basis for the social media platform's functionality. Twitter has filed a copyright infringement claim and requested the removal of the leaked code from the Github collaborative programming network. However, details about the extent and duration of the leak have not been made public.

In addition to requesting the removal of the code, Twitter also asked the US District Court for the Northern District of California to compel Github to identify the user who posted the code and those who downloaded it. Sources within the company believe that a disgruntled former employee, who left within the past year, may have been responsible for the leak.

Twitter executives are concerned that the leaked code could reveal new exploits and allow hackers to access Twitter user data, potentially leading to future security risks. This news comes shortly after Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter last October for $44 billion and a subsequent reduction of 80% of the company's staff.

It is unclear at this time what specific measures Twitter will take in response to the leak. Still, the company has indicated that it takes the situation seriously and will continue to investigate.
