Square Enix’s HD-2D remake of Live A Live will no longer be a Nintendo Switch exclusive as the game is set to release on PlayStation consoles and PCs starting April 27.

Live A Live, originally released in 1994 for the SNES, is a grid-based RPG with eight different sections, each with its own protagonist and gameplay gimmicks. These sections are set in various time periods, including Prehistory, The Middle Ages, Imperial China, Twilight of Edo Japan, The Wild West, Present Day, The Near Future, and The Distant Future.

The remake enhances the game with extreme visual facelifts using HD-2D visuals similar to Octopath Traveler 2. George Yang of Digital Trends gave the game a three-and-a-half-star review, praising its charm and stating that Live A Live “has the hallmarks that make it a good entry in the genre”.

In North America, the Switch version of Live A Live was published by Nintendo. However, as the game is being released on other platforms, Square Enix has taken over publishing duties. In anticipation of the upcoming release, Square Enix has launched a demo for Live A Live on PS4 and PS5, featuring sections from Twilight of Edo Japan, The Distant Future, and The Wild West.

Live A Live is currently available for Nintendo Switch and will be released on PC, PS4, and PS5 on April 27. PlayStation Plus members can pre-order the game with a 20% discount.
