Check the Quick Settings Panel

The flashlight toggle lives in the Quick Settings panel. Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to expand the full panel. If you don't see the flashlight icon there, swipe left or right to check the second page of controls.

If the icon is grayed out, the system is blocking the flashlight for a specific reason. Don't assume it's a hardware failure right away. In my experience, this is almost always a temporary software lock.

Close Any App Using the Camera

The camera and flashlight on the Tab S11 Ultra share the same physical LED. If an app has control over the camera, even in the background, the flashlight won't fire. This includes the stock Camera app, Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp, or any video calling app like Zoom or Google Meet.

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the middle and hold. This opens the App Switcher. Swipe away any app that might be holding onto the camera. Try the flashlight again from Quick Settings.

Force Restart the Tablet

If the toggle is available but tapping it does nothing, a force restart is your best bet. This clears the software state that controls the LED without erasing any of your data.

Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds. The screen will go black, and the Samsung logo will appear. Once it boots up, test the flashlight immediately.

Check the Battery and Charging Status

The Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra has a known issue where it can become completely unresponsive after the battery drains to zero. If your tablet was dead and you just charged it, the flashlight might not work right away.

Plug the tablet directly into a wall outlet using the included USB-C cable. Avoid power strips or extension cords. If the battery was critically low, the charging indicator can take up to 10 minutes to appear on the screen. Give it time. Once the battery has some charge, try the flashlight again.

If the device remains unresponsive to charging, force restart it (Power + Volume Down for 10-15 seconds) while it's still plugged in. This can wake up the charging circuit and restore normal function.

Cool Down the Tablet

When the Tab S11 Ultra gets too warm, the system disables non-essential features to protect the internal components. The flashlight is one of the first features to get cut off.

If the tablet feels hot to the touch, set it aside in a cooler environment for 10-15 minutes. Once the temperature sensor reports a safe range, the flashlight toggle will become available again in Quick Settings.

Check the Flashlight Brightness Level

This one trips up a lot of people. Long-press the flashlight icon in the Quick Settings panel. A brightness slider appears on the screen. If someone accidentally set it to the lowest level, the light might be too weak to notice, especially in a bright room.

Drag the slider all the way to the top. Test the flashlight again. This is a simple fix, but I've seen it fool people into thinking the LED was broken.

Reset System Settings

If the flashlight toggle is acting strangely or missing completely, a system settings reset can fix the software configuration without wiping your apps or personal data.

Go to Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset All Settings. This resets network, accessibility, and display settings back to their defaults. You'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi, but your photos, messages, and installed apps stay put.

Boot into Safe Mode

A third-party app can interfere with the system controls for the flashlight. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all apps you've installed, leaving only the stock Samsung software running.

Press and hold the Power button, then long-press the Power Off option on the screen. Tap Safe Mode to confirm. If the flashlight works perfectly in Safe Mode, a downloaded app is causing the conflict. Restart the tablet normally to exit Safe Mode, then uninstall recently added apps one at a time until you find the culprit.

Install Software Updates

Samsung regularly releases patches that fix known bugs, including issues with system controls like the flashlight. Open Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. If there's an update available, install it and restart the tablet.

Since the Tab S11 Ultra runs Android 16, there's always a chance that a system glitch from a recent patch got caught in a subsequent fix. Keeping the software current is a simple step that often resolves these oddball issues on Samsung devices.

Inspect the LED Hardware

Open the Camera app and switch to Photo mode. Tap the flash icon in the top-left corner and set it to On. Take a photo. If the camera flash also doesn't fire, the LED hardware itself is likely damaged or defective.

If the camera flash works fine but the Quick Settings flashlight still doesn't, the problem is isolated to the software control path rather than the hardware itself. In that case, revisit the Reset All Settings or Safe Mode steps above. If the hardware is truly dead (no camera flash either), check your warranty. The Tab S11 Ultra released in 2025, so it may still be covered under Samsung's manufacturer warranty for a hardware repair or replacement.
