When your POCO F6 suddenly goes silent, it can throw a wrench in your day. Whether you're missing calls, can't hear videos, or your music has stopped, the fix is usually simpler than you think. I'd start by checking the most common culprits first, as they solve the issue for most people.
It is worth confirming the basics with a quick online speaker test. If neither channel plays a tone, you are looking at a hardware or connection problem rather than a settings issue.
Check Your Volume and Sound Mode
First, press the volume up button on the side of your phone. Make sure you're not in silent or vibrate mode. You can check this quickly by looking for a bell icon with a line through it in your status bar at the top of the screen.
For more control, go into Settings > Sound & vibration. Here, you'll see sliders for Media, Ringtone, and Alarm volumes. Slide the Media volume all the way up. Also, tap on Sound mode at the top and ensure it's set to "Sound," not "Vibrate" or "Silent."
Disconnect Bluetooth and Accessories
Your POCO F6 might be trying to send audio to a device that isn't there. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel and look for the Bluetooth icon. If it's blue, tap it to turn it off.
Also, physically unplug any headphones or USB-C accessories. Sometimes, a bit of lint in the USB-C port can trick the phone into thinking headphones are plugged in, which mutes the speakers.
Clean the Speaker Grilles
The dual speakers on the POCO F6 have grilles at the bottom and top of the phone. Over time, pocket lint and dust can clog them. Grab a soft, clean toothbrush or a small brush with soft bristles.
Gently brush across the grilles to dislodge any debris. You can also use a can of compressed air, but hold it upright and use short bursts from a few inches away. Never poke anything sharp like a pin into the grille, as you can easily damage the speaker behind it.
Restart Your Phone
A simple restart clears out temporary software glitches that can affect audio. Just hold down the power button until the power menu appears, then tap "Restart." Wait for the phone to fully boot back up.
If the phone is completely unresponsive or the restart doesn't help, try a force restart. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Keep holding it until you see the POCO logo appear, then release. This forces a hard reboot.
Check Do Not Disturb and App-Specific Settings
Go to Settings > Notifications & status bar > Do Not Disturb. Make sure this feature is turned off. Also, check if you have any schedules or rules set that might be activating it automatically.
Sometimes, the problem is with just one app. Open the app that's having sound issues, like YouTube or Spotify, and look in its own settings menu for any audio or playback options. Also, check Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Notifications to make sure sounds are enabled for that specific app.
Boot Into Safe Mode
Safe mode temporarily disables all third-party apps you've downloaded. If your sound works perfectly in safe mode, you know a recently installed app is the culprit. To enter safe mode, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears.
Then, tap and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will appear asking if you want to reboot to safe mode. Tap "OK." Your phone will restart with "Safe mode" visible in the bottom corner. Test your sound now. To exit, just restart your phone normally.
Clear the Cache Partition
Corrupted system cache files can cause all sorts of weird behavior, including audio problems. This doesn't delete any of your personal data. First, power your POCO F6 off completely.
Now, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the POCO/Redmi logo, then release. You'll enter the Recovery menu. Use the volume buttons to scroll to "Wipe data" and press the power button to select it.
On the next screen, choose "Wipe cache" and confirm. Once it's done, select "Reboot" to restart your phone. This process can take a minute or two.
Update Your Software
Xiaomi and POCO regularly release updates that fix bugs. An outdated version of HyperOS could be the root of your audio trouble. Connect to Wi-Fi and go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version.
Tap on "Check for updates." If an update is available, download and install it. It's a good idea to plug your phone into its 90W charger during this process to ensure it doesn't run out of power.
Reset All Settings
If you're still having issues, you can reset all your system settings back to default without touching your photos, messages, or apps. This will revert things like Wi-Fi passwords, wallpaper, and sound settings. Go to Settings > About phone > Factory reset.
On this screen, choose "Reset all settings" (not "Erase all data"). Confirm your choice and enter your lock screen PIN if prompted. Your phone will reboot, and you'll need to reconfigure your preferences, but it often clears up persistent software conflicts.
