In a recent announcement, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed the imminent release of the company's first-ever foldable smartphone, slated to arrive in the third quarter of this year. Adding fuel to the excitement, a reputable source has divulged some intriguing details about the highly anticipated device.

According to reports, the unveiling of the OnePlus foldable smartphone is scheduled to take place in New York during the first half of August. If the rumors hold true, this means that the announcement will closely follow Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5, which are expected to be unveiled at Samsung's next Unpacked event on July 26. OnePlus' decision to enter the foldable market with such proximity to Samsung's launch indicates a bold move to seize some of the spotlight from its renowned competitor.

Furthermore, sources indicate that the OnePlus Fold will undergo a global rollout, making it available in markets including the United States, India, and other countries where OnePlus currently operates.

Intriguingly, it is rumored that Oppo, a sister company of OnePlus, plans to introduce its Find N3 smartphone in China around the same time. Speculations suggest that the OnePlus Fold might serve as the international variant of the Find N3. If these rumors prove accurate, the OnePlus Fold is expected to boast an impressive 8-inch inner foldable screen with QHD+ resolution, accompanied by a 6.5-inch outer FHD+ display, both supporting a high refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Under the hood, the OnePlus Fold will feature the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, offering remarkable performance. It is expected to be paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and offer storage options of up to 512GB utilizing UFS 4.0 technology. However, it is worth noting that the device will run on Android 13 with OxygenOS 13.1, which may disappoint some enthusiasts as it is launching around the same time Google is expected to release Android 14.

The device will be equipped with a substantial 4,800 mAh battery, featuring support for rapid 80W wired charging. In terms of photography, the OnePlus Fold will sport a 50 MP primary camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a 48 MP ultrawide lens, and a 32 MP periscope telephoto camera. For selfies, users can take advantage of the dual 32 MP front-facing cameras, one for each screen.

As OnePlus ventures into the foldable smartphone market, consumers are eagerly awaiting the official launch to witness how this device will shape the future of mobile technology. With its impressive specifications and its intention to compete head-to-head with industry giants, OnePlus has undoubtedly piqued the curiosity of smartphone enthusiasts worldwide.
